Nine-months pregnant woman, 39, and her baby boy survive after she was shot in the stomach by a stray bullet in the doorway of her Philadelphia home

A nine-months pregnant woman was standing with her husband in the doorway of their Philadelphia home on Wednesday evening when police say a stray bullet hit her in the stomach. 

The 39-year-old victim was rushed to a hospital, where doctors performed emergency C-section and were able to save the lives of both the mother and child.

The Philadelphia Police Department said the incident took place at around 7.30pm on Wednesday in the 1800 block of East Atlantic Street.

The woman collapsed, wounded, and was rushed to the hospital, where doctors performed emergency C-section and saved the lives of the mother and child 

As the mom-to-be was standing in the doorway while her husband smoked a cigarette, a gunshot rang out.

When the woman looked down, she saw that she had been shot in the abdomen.

Several children were inside the home at the time of the shooting, according to police speaking to Philadelphia Inquirer.

First responders found the victim gushing blood on her living floor and rushed her to Temple University Hospital in critical condition.

Police believe the mom-to-be was not the intended target of the shooting in Kensington 

As of Thursday afternoon, the mother and baby were listed in stable condition, and the woman was said be awake and speaking.

Police believe that the pregnant woman was not the intended target of the shooting, and that she was struck by a stray bullet, reported CBS Philly.

‘We don't have a description of the shooter from the family,’ Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said. ‘They said they didn't see anyone fire the shots. They just heard the gunshot.’

As of late Thursday afternoon, no arrests have been made.
