Dad who 'confronted his son-in-law' before allegedly SHOOTING him in the neck is charged with attempted murder

An elderly man who allegedly shot his daughter's ex-husband following an argument has been charged with attempted murder.

Mirko Uskovic, 51, was allegedly confronted by his father-in-law Bill Murrell, 73, in the front of his home at Wahroonga, on Sydney's Upper North Shore, just after 10am on Thursday.

Daily Mail Australia understands Uskovic is in the middle of a separation from Murrell's daughter Danielle, with whom he has four daughters. 

When Murrell arrived at his son-in-law's home on Highlands Avenue tensions quickly escalated and a shot was allegedly fired, with neighbours reporting a 'big bang' to Triple-0.

Daily Mail Australia understands Murrell went to talk with Mirko Uskovic, 51, about his relationship with his daughter Danielle

Police rushed to the scene and found Uskovic suffering a gunshot wound to the neck and Murrell nursing facial injuries nearby. 

Both men are now in a stable condition at Royal North Shore Hospital. 

Two firearms - a handgun and a shortened rifle - were seized by officers as a crime scene was established. 

Police searched a home in Beecroft on Thursday and allegedly found an unregistered rifle and ammunition. 

Murrell has now been charged with attempted murder and a raft of firearms offences.

He was refused bail to appear at Hornsby Local Court on Friday, which is expected to be a bedside hearing.

Mr Uskovic is treated at the scene and airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital in a stable condition 

His father-in-law Bill Murrell, 74, is also found injured at the bloody scene with facial injuries. He is taken to the same hospital and placed under police guard

Detectives seize two firearms from the home and close off the exclusive street

Wahroonga local Ben Suleyman, 18, said he heard a loud 'bang' while playing with his dogs, but did not think anything of it until he saw helicopters hovering overhead.

'I was out in the garden with the dog, I'm literally just one street over, and I heard this big bang, just one,' Mr Suleyman said.

'I didn't know it was a gunshot so I think much of it, but then once I heard the police and the helicopter I jumped in my car and drove around to see what was going on.

'I met the older man once, he was a pleasant guy. He'd just bought his daughter a car.'

Another neighbour heard the men arguing, and then a gun shot, and called police. 

Kuring-Gai Police Superintendent Barry Vincent said when police arrived two guns were found on the property and seized. 

'We received a call through Triple Zero from a neighbour and police responded very quickly,' he said.

'Upon attending the scene they challenged both parties to ensure all firearms were secured.'

Wahroonga is one of Sydney's most prestigious suburbs, with many wealthy families attracted to the big homes and the fact three of the city's top private schools are close by - Knox Grammar, Abbotsleigh and Barker College. 

Longtime local resident Louis Bugeja, 63, heard the disturbance on the street and came outside to see what was going on.

'The first thing we heard from police was that there had been a domestic dispuite, and they believed a stabbing, but then we heard it was a gunshot,' Mr Bugeja said.

'I saw the guys being loaded in the back of the ambulance, the younger guy was holding his neck.' 

Mr Bugeja said there had been several incidents on the street in recent years, but not in the house related to Thursday's shooting.
