Cindy McCain says Joe Biden has won Arizona and calls Trump campaign's plan to challenge results with lawsuits 'frivolous and unfounded'

Cindy McCain congratulated President-elect Joe Biden for winning her home state of Arizona and called President Donald Trump's plan to challenge results with lawsuits 'frivolous' and 'unfounded.'

'Arizonans showed up in record numbers and I am pleased that many joined me supporting Joe Biden, who has won Arizona’s 11 Electoral Votes,' McCain said in a statement Thursday. 'Frivolous lawsuits and unfounded allegations that are intended only to cast doubt on the legitimacy of the election benefit no one and harm our state,' she added.

Arizona's own Repubican attorney general, Mark Brnovich, dismissed Trump's conspiracy claims of widespread voter fraud on Wednesday, saying that wasn't the case in Arizona - and that Biden would likely win the state.

President Donald Trump has refused to concede the election to President-elect Joe Biden and instead has whipped up conspiracies about widespread voter fraud, without producing evidence that anything happened that could overturn the election

President Donald Trump has refused to concede the election to President-elect Joe Biden and instead has whipped up conspiracies about widespread voter fraud, without producing evidence that anything happened that could overturn the election

Arizona was called for Biden by Fox News Channel and The Associated Press the night of the election, but other news outlets have held off on making that projection until more votes are counted.

The Cook Political Report's Dave Wasserman, on his popular @Redistrict Twitterfeed, tweeted Wednesday night that there was no path for Trump to take the lead in Arizona.

The presidential race was called for Biden by all the major networks on Saturday once he won Pennsylvania and then Nevada. Biden looks likely to carry Georgia as well.

Trump has refused to concede.

In her statement, McCain said the election 'required some patience to get to the final conclusion. But, it is a conclusion that we are totally confident is legitimate.'

'Arizona has a long history of conducting its elections honestly and with integrity, and 2020 was no exception,' the widow of the late Sen. John McCain said.

'Arizonans should not be trying to cast doubt on the legitimate outcome of this race,' she warned. 'The race in this state is not close enough to meet the legal standard for a recount, so we should accept the results and get on with the healing we need.'

McCain pointed out that she and Biden have been friends for more than 40 years.

She crossed the aisle and campaigned for the Democratic nominee in Arizona in October.

'He is a man of honor and defined by his love of the United States and particularly our troops, as was my husband, John,' she said.

McCain also reached out to Americans who supported Trump.

'Of all people, I know what it is like to lose an election, so I am sympathetic to those who wished the election had come out another way, but I remember John’s example in 2008 of accepting the decision of the voters and moving on to the next challenge,' she said.

Sen. John McCain, the 2008 Republican nominee, gave a concession speech on Election Night, before the newly elected President Barack Obama gave his victory address.

'I hope all Arizonans and Americans will join me in congratulating President-elect Joe Biden and Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris,' McCain said.
