'Attacking a family’s decision in the middle of a pandemic is shameful': Ivanka and Jared slam 'gossip' parents for forcing them to take their kids out of $28k-a-year school when they 'complained about them attending White House events without masks'

Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump have slammed what they call 'gossip' parents at their children's former school after they reportedly complained about the couple flouting COVID-19 guidelines and attending White House events without masks.

The couple, who have three children, had sent them to $28,400-a-year Milton Gottesman Jewish Day School since moving to the capital in 2017. On October 19 they moved them to Melvin J. Berman Hebrew Academy in Maryland, where fees go up to $25,270.

At the time it was said the move, shortly after Donald Trump and other White House officials tested positive for the virus, was down to the fact Berman offered more in person classes amid the ongoing pandemic.

But the Jewish Telegraphic Agency now reports how other parents had expressed worries at seeing the couple attending events in support of the president and in close contact with people who had been at functions where COVID-19 was spread.

The school is said to have failed to reach a compromise with the couple on the issue and the children were withdrawn. A spokesman for Milton confirmed: 'They withdrew from the school.'

White House Spokeswoman Carolina Hurley told DailyMail.com on Thursday: 'Unnamed sources attacking a family's decision about what is best for their kids in the middle of a pandemic is shameful.

'As is true for all families, schooling choices and education are deeply personal decisions and they owe no one, especially idle gossips seeking press attention, an explanation.'

One unnamed mom had said: 'There was concern for the safety of children because it was very clear the Kushner parents were violating public health recommendations.

'At the same time of rising cases in the states and children going back to school, we were seeing the Kushners violating quarantine requirements.'

Amy Coney Barrett's ceremonial nomination to the Supreme Court was said to have been one of the White House events that caused alarm. Jared and Ivanka were not thought to have been at the function but did come into close contact with those they were and later tested positive.

Ivanka was then seen maskless, along with the rest of her family, at the presidential debate in Cleveland. Days later her father, and first lady Melania tested positive.

When the president tested positive on October 2 parents are said to have also asked for details on when he had last seen the couple and their children.

In its guidelines Milton had asked that: 'Students and families are expected to adhere to any and all social distancing guidelines and mask requirements while not on campus to minimize the risk of contracting COVID-19 as well as reducing the risk of exposing employees and/or MILTON's students to COVID-19.

'To help reduce the risk of COVID-19 exposure at the School, the School asks all families to limit their attendance at large public or private gatherings, events, and other activities to those where social distancing can be maintained and guidance regarding masks is followed.

'Families and students should avoid hosting or attending large gatherings where proper social distancing measures are not feasible.'
