Homeowners are sharing their tips to prevent unwanted visitors over Christmas on social media.

'Unfortunately more so this time of year little horrible scumbags try taking what we work so hard for,' the man wrote.
'They are sneaky and silent so definitely a great idea.
How to prevent your home from break-ins
1. Avoid sharing information online that might tell people your house is empty
2. Consider using deterrents like timed lights or noise recordings like dogs barking; people talking to create the illusion someone is home
3. Checking locks are secure on all windows and doors
'Obviously lock the door but if they try handle you'll know.'
The simple hack would mean anyone trying to enter the home would send the mug crashing to the ground into hundreds of pieces.
The household hack has been seen by thousands of people impressed by the cheap and simple way to keep robbers at bay.

But some weren't convinced it was foolproof.
A number of residents suggested it would only work if their doors were unlocked, as their handles wouldn't turn if the doors were locked.
While another jokingly suggested the cleanup after the event would cause more hassle than it as worth.
'But it will make a mess when it smashes on the floor and you might cut yourself cleaning it up?,' they wrote.
