Bronx man, 26, 'kidnapped his girlfriend and her seven-year-old son, and held them hostage in Manhattan apartment for five days where he repeatedly raped her, broke her jaw and beat them both, until victims were able to escape'
A Bronx man has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping and holding captive his girlfriend and her seven-year-old son, beating the mother and child and raping the woman while high on cocaine.
Aquilino Torres, 26, was arraigned in Manhattan Federal Court on Wednesday on charges of kidnapping and kidnapping of a minor, which each carry a sentence of up to a life in prison.
According to a criminal complaint, Torres abducted his girlfriend in early October after learning that she had cheated on him with someone else.
Aquilino Torres, 26, was arraigned in Manhattan Federal Court on charges of kidnapping and kidnapping of a minor for allegedly abducting and abusing his girlfriend and her son
Torres allegedly forced the woman to come with him by threatening to kill her son.
Prosecutors said Torres held the woman and the boy as hostages, first in a motel in The Bronx, then in an apartment in Manhattan, for five days, during which time he broke his girlfriend's jaw, beat her son in front of her, tied her to the bed to prevent her from leaving and sexually assaulted her at least twice.
The victims finally managed to escape and seek help after Torres left the apartment one day.
FBI Assistant Director William Sweeney Jr praised the mother for her courageous act.
'The resiliency she and her son showed is commendable, and as a result of their heroic actions, Torres will now face justice,' he stated. 'I sincerely hope that provides them some comfort; we will do everything in our power to help them heal.'
According to the allegations outlined in the complaint, the incident began unfolding on October 5, when Torres found out that the woman he had been dating for the past several months had been with someone else.
Torres sent the women several threatening text messages, which stated: 'Watch when I catch you. I’ma kick your son’s teeth out. . . . I tried to resolve things and you denied my invitation. I’ll be around waiting.'
Later that same day, Torres approached his girlfriend in Harlem and told her, 'If you don’t come with me I’ll kill your son,' according to the complaint.
Fearing for her child's safety, the woman agreed to accompany Torres to a motel in The Bronx, where he instructed her to book a room for the three of them for one night, warning her: 'don’t do anything stupid or I’m gonna kill your son.'
Once Torres and the two victims entered their room, the suspect allegedly hit the child in the head. After the boy fell asleep, the suspect led his girlfriend into the bathroom and began punching her, causing her to bleed.
After forcing the injured woman to swallow the blood in her mouth, Torres raped her, according to the complaint.
The following day, Torres ordered his girlfriend to rent an apartment on Fort Washington Avenue in Manhattan for $320 and get an Uber to take the three of them to their new address.
After arriving at the apartment, according to the court documents, Torres used a string to tie his girlfriend to the bed and warned her that if she tried to escape, he would kill her son.
'I’m gonna be like the shirt on your back. No matter where you go, I’ll find you,' he was quoted in the complaint as telling the woman.
Over the next three days, Torres snorted cocaine in front of the mother and child and raped the woman at least once, the complaint stated.
Torres was arrested on Tuesday and booked into the Metropolitan Correctional Center
On October 10, Torres 'became agitated' and began choking and hitting the woman. He ordered her to tell her son to look away, and when the boy refused to comply, Torres struck him in the head, according to the documents.
After the attack, Torres left the apartment, offering the mother and child a chance opportunity to escape.
The woman headed to a hospital emergency room, where doctors determined that she had a broken jaw, requiring surgery.
About an hour after the escape, Torres allegedly sent his girlfriend a string of threatening texts, including: 'If I make the decision to go looking for you there won’t be turning back.'
Torres also allegedly threatened to post a naked photo of the woman online if she did not respond to his messages.
Torres was arrested on Tuesday and booked into the Metropolitan Correctional Center.
