REVEALED: The top ten Sydney suburbs where house prices are tipped to SOAR despite coronavirus market plunge - with some surprising postcodes making the list

House prices in some Sydney suburbs are tipped to soar despite the sharp plunge in the property market since the COVID-19 pandemic hit Australia's shores.

Property values in the Harbour City dropped two per cent over the June quarter, with the Reserve Bank of Australia warning a 40 per cent fall was 'plausible' as the effects of lockdown continue to ravage the economy.

But experts say some Sydney suburbs will be immune from the downturn.

Data from Select Residential Property suggests there are ten postcodes across the city where it could be wise to invest, 9News reports.

Dover Heights (pictured), on Sydney's eastern coastline, was number one on the top ten list of suburbs tipped to grow over the next three years

Dover Heights, in the east, topped the list closely followed by Beverly Park in the south.

Riverview, on the Lower North Shore, rounded out the top ten after eastern suburb Queens Park.

But most of the postcodes are in the Sutherland Shire - including Illawong, Kareela, Como, Peakhurst Heights and Grays Point - where prices are much more affordable.

Bilgola Plateau is also included, which is near Avalon on the Northern Beaches.

The median house price in Riverview (pictured), on the Lower North Shore, is forecast to rise more than $300,000 over the next two years

'It's an aspirational area, it's semi-affluent, not as much as the eastern suburbs,' SRP's head of research Jeremy Sheppard said.

'With interest rates dropping and with prices coming back somewhat from the last boom, it seems to be gathering a lot of interest from buyers.'

Mr Sheppard was it was surprising to see Dover Heights take the top spot, as its performance is usually weak compared to its eastern counterparts.

While the south is forecast to boom, Mr Sheppard said other areas will still see growth.

'I wouldn't discredit the Northern Beaches. You can pick up some excellent capital growth there and in the east and inner west,' he said.

Mr Sheppard forecasts an upturn for western Sydney areas is still years away.

It comes as data from online property sales site Domain last month revealed Australian home hunters are increasingly looking to buy homes in outer suburbs.

Property searches in Sydney's south west, including home inspections and multiple viewings of property listings - soared by 27.3 per cent in the four weeks to September 6.

Buyer interest in the Wollondilly Shire Council area - taking in the towns of Picton, Tahmoor and Bargo - was was almost triple greater Sydney's average monthly increase of 9.5 per cent.
