The gag saw Smith 'win' Melbourne's 'Goose of the Week' award.
Speaking on Channel 9's 100% Footy on Monday night, Smith told host James Bracey and the panel he acted on instinct.
'I thought I'd get one up on Bellsa so I stole his grandson's lollipop,' Smith, who is the nicknamed 'The Cheese', explained.
'I didn't know the camera was watching us. 'When I stole the lollipop, he started crying.
'Me and Bellsa have made up for it.'
New Zealand international Smith made his NRL debut for the Storm in 2017 and was in their grand final team the following season.
He is jostling with fellow young gun Harry Grant to be the next Melbourne starting hooker once club legend Cameron Smith retires.
