The Captain's Log: Tom Queally enjoys the glamour after Team Frankel win another award

The ability of the great Frankel to reach out to parts normally untouched by racing has struck again with the latest award presented to Sir Henry Cecil's unbeaten champion racehorse.

Frankel and the staff who looked after him at Cecil's Newmarket base have been awarded the 'Team of The Year' in this week's Zoo Magazine, beating Champions' League winners Chelsea and British Olympic heros.

Special team: Trainer Henry Cecil with Jockey Tom Queally and horse Frankel

The accolade certainly seemed to please jockey Tom Queally, who said: 'It's great to be a part of Team Frankel's success and to have helped win this award. It's also good to get in a magazine among loads of topless girls.'

Meanwhile, Frankel's brother and faithful pacemaker Bullet Train, who has joined him in being retired to stud, will stand for a fee of $7,500.

While Frankel had to travel just a few miles from Cecil's Newmarket stable to the Banstead Manor Stud of owner Prince Khaled Abdullah, Bullet Train has crossed the Atlantic.

The five-year-old will stand at Wintergreen in Kentucky. His fee compares to the £125,000 of his illustrious sibling.

Trainer Tim Vaughan has vowed to finally keep a promise this week made to David Pearn, the owner with most horses in his welsh stable.

Vaughan (right) said that he would name one of his stable barns after his client and his business if he had 10 horses in the string.

Although that number has risen to 11, the sign bearing the name Pearn's Pharmacies, had remained in Vaughan's office.

The failure to hang it prompted light-heartedly chastisement after Pean's Wings of Smoke won at Newbury last week.

Vaughan will hopefully have gone to work with his hammer and nails, especially as Wings Of Smoke has a good chance of adding to his win at Sandown on Friday, offering the chance of another potential ribbing.

Pearn, MD of Pearn's Pharmarcies, which has a string of chemists close to the Vaughan base, has plenty to hopefully look forward to.

He is the owner of Figaro, the gelded son of Medicean bought out of the William Haggas stable for £100,000 in July, and Ballyrock, the Challow Hurdle runner-up.

The Captain just hopes Vaughan's DIY skills are as good as his training.

Horses trained by Mark Johnston have developed the reputation for toughness and resilience and plenty of them boast their fair share of staying power. So, it seems, does their trainer.

In the December edition of his stable magazine 'The Kingsley Klarion', Johnston reveals he has just returned from a three-day cycling holiday in France, two of which were rain lashed, in which he and a friend covered 162 miles. Even allowing for the fact Normandy and Brittany are not King of the Mountain's territory, it still seems pretty impressive. Wiggo watch out.

Talking of Johnson's Middleham stable, he and wife Dierdre has given their staff a two-year-old as a reward for their hard work and dedication. Staffhoss made his debut hinting at promise at Kempton last month.

The new arrangement explains the owners' puzzling name – Emjayaargh Syndicate. That could be just a funny way of representing (M)ark (J)ohnston (R)acing. Though The Captain did wonder whether the last syllable represented a competitive stable roar or an, occasionally, grumpy boss!

Nominations are still opened for the laudable Godolphin Stud and stable staff awards which have quickly become an important date in the sport's calendar.

With £120,000 up for grabs, there is reason enough for trainers or studs to put forward worthy candidates. But, equally important, is the recognition the awards bring to people in the engine room of the racing industry.

Nominations can be made up to January 11 as a successor is sought for the biggest prize of all, Employee of the Year, which this year was scooped by Clifford Baker, Head Lad to champion trainer Paul Nicholls and the man who rode the great Kauto Star on most days of the now retired gelding's working life.

Nomination forms are available for download at www.britishhorseracing.com/stablestaff and via www.racingpost.com. Alternatively, they can be emailed to awards@britishhorseracing.com.

The awards ceremony is in London on March 4.
