Motorists were seeing double in Heywood - after two identical 'Give Way' signs were put up just a foot away from each other.
Bungling officials replaced an old version with a new, illuminated one in Heywood, near Rochdale - but didn't remove the older sign.
The new sign – the one in front and slightly to the right – is a replacement for the old version after a deal agreed between the local authority and an energy supplier.

A spokesman for Rochdale Council said: 'There is currently a large scale replacement of illuminated signage happening at the moment and inevitably there are short periods of time where signs are waiting to be connected or disconnected to electricity sources.

At the start of April notices on the A90 route on the outskirts of Aberdeen, Scotland, Bear Scotland, bearing the same information were erected just metres apart from each other.
The banners detail how far away Stonehaven, Laurencekirk, Brechin, Forfar, Dundee and Perth are from the Granite City.
Two were left up to accommodate new signage for a U-turn ban and junction warning signs - but one is due to be taken down.
