Warning for families as dozens are forced into isolation after an entire OUTDOOR basketball court was exposed to Covid - as six busy supermarkets are put on alert

Dozens of families who used an outdoor basketball court have been ordered to self-isolate after they played alongside a Covid-19 case.

The Koonoona Park basketball courts in Villawood in Sydney's south west was among 19 new venues listed on NSW Health's list of exposure sites on Sunday afternoon.

Coronavirus is significantly less likely to be transmitted outdoors, but can still be passed between people in close contact - for example while playing sport.

Others included several supermarkets, takeaway outlets, a service station, a bakery and pharmacies.

It comes after a horror day for NSW with a record 1,218 new cases and six more deaths, the highest daily number of infections ever seen in Australia.

Anyone who attended the Koonoona Park basketball court last Sunday, August 22, between 1pm and 6pm is deemed as a close contact and must immediately get tested and isolate for 14 days from the day they were there, regardless of the test result.

A host of casual contact sites across NSW were listed on Sunday afternoon with a number of them listed multiple times.

They included venues in Berkeley, Erina, Gosford, Kotara and Raymond Terrace on the NSW Central Coast, along with Dubbo and Narromine in the state's west.

Anyone deemed as a casual contact must immediately get tested and isolate until they get a negative result, even if they've had a test in recent days.

Dubbo shoppers are on high alert with multiple dates and times listed for three different Woolworths supermarkets in the town visited by an infected case.

They include Woolworths stores at Orana Mall, Delroy Park and Riverdale shopping centres.

Dubbo remains a high concern for health officials with another 18 new cases on Sunday.

'It is not an indication that things have calmed down, in fact there is still more concern about particular parts of our region,' local MP Dugald Saunders said on Sunday.

Six NSW residents died in the 24 hours to 8pm on Saturday, including three people in their 80s and three people in their 70s.

Four were unvaccinated and two only had one dose.

There are 126 people in ICU - 113 of whom are not vaccinated, 12 who have had one dose and one who has received both doses.

But Premier Gladys Berejiklian urged people not to worry about case numbers, but to focus on vaccination rates instead.

NSW has had its best-ever week of vaccination, with 834,000 people rolling up their sleeves.

Sixty-five per cent of the population have had one dose, and 35 per cent have had two.

'The case numbers are always concerning when they are going up. We would love to see them come down but that is not the most relevant number for us,' Ms Berejiklian said.

'I don't want people to go through the daily rollercoaster of case numbers going up and down.
