Nurse shares a powerful message to 'Covid deniers' about the reality of working with patients dying from the disease - painting a grim picture for those who STILL don't get it

A nurse has penned a powerful message to the 'brave Covid deniers' who attended anti-lockdown protests to shed light on the devastating impacts of the virus.

'Freedom' rallies were staged across Australia on Saturday, with thousands of demonstrators storming the streets of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Adelaide calling for an end to lockdowns.

Footage posted online showed violent clashes erupting between police and attendees, with some Sydneysiders pelting bottles at officers and attacking police horses.

Unmasked protesters packed close together chanted anti-vax slogans and held signs demanding 'freedom' and spouting conspiracy theories, with authorities now fearing the marches may have been 'superspreader' events.

Now, Melbourne nurse Merowyn Olaver has issued a stark warning over social media about the reality of coronavirus wards, urging Australians to take health measures seriously.

'Whilst people were protesting their freedom from lockdown and anti-vaccination rhetoric today, I was at work - washing my hands, wearing a mask, using hand sanitiser, giving people antibiotics via IV drips, checking bloods, relieving pain with analgesics - all scientific, evidence-based interventions,' she wrote on Instagram.

'If any of these people end up in hospital will you be wanting your nurses to wear masks, wash their hands, give you antibiotics, check bloods and relieve your pain? Will you seek scientific, evidence-based interventions to prevent you from further illness?'

Ms Olaver said even those who choose to 'cherry pick' what they believe in can trust they will be given the best care health workers can provide if they contract the virus.

'If you are to catch Covid and your body cannot fight any longer then we will make you as comfortable as possible,' she said.

She detailed how hospital staff would wash the patient's body with 'warm flannels', surround them with soft pillows, and turn the lights low to make them relax.

'We will hold your hand and talk to you gently, laugh at ourselves and sing songs,' Ms Olaver said.

' when you're very close to the end, your family will be called, salty tears splashing across their cheeks while they whisper "I love you" into the receiver - a lifetime away. At the end, after your last breath we will be there to offer condolences, "Sorry we couldn't do more, sorry your heart is broken".

'We will care for you until the caretaker comes to zip you up in a thick rubber cadaver bag and roll you away. You brave Covid denier, look at the legacy you've left behind. You are now free.'

The strong message rapidly went viral, racking up almost 3,500 likes, with many praising Ms Olaver and her fellow healthcare workers for serving the community.

'Thank you for everything, for even fighting for the ones who can't help themselves or others,' one woman wrote.

'This says everything. Thank you for everything you do,' another added.

One healthcare worker said she was angry some people still believe the pandemic is fake while she tirelessly battles the virus every day.

'We resuscitated while they protested the existence of that very thing before our eyes. While we risked ours and our family's lives for someone else,' she said.

'I am livid, but also just plain exhausted and demoralised.'

Another woman employed in the same industry said she could not 'wrap her head around' people breaching restrictions in place to keep Australians safe.

'I am sick of people not adhering to precautions. And to see this the at this magnitude - it just blows my mind,' she said.

More than 3500 people took to Sydney's CBD on Saturday, the largest of the protests, to demand an end to the city's five-week lockdown.

NSW Police swiftly set up Strike Force Seasoned to track down all attendees at Saturday's protest, as health officials brace for a potential surge in Covid cases in coming days.

More than 250 public infringement notices have already been issued.

Crime Stoppers NSW has received more than 10,000 tips from the public after NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian and police minister David Elliott urged residents to dob in those who posted footage of themselves at the protest.
