'Hitler's therapist' video game storm: Role play in which contestants try to prevent the Holocaust by acting as a psychologist who treats the Fuhrer sparks outrage

A video game in which players try to prevent the Holocaust by being a psychologist who treats Hitler has sparked outrage.

Heal Hitler – a twisted pun on the Nazi 'Heil Hitler' salute – requires participants to prevent mass bloodshed by being a good shrink to the Fuhrer.

A description for the game reads: 'You are Hitler's psychologist in 1925. 

'Diagnose his complexes by using both Jungian and Freudian psychotherapy and attempt to heal him. 

'Succeed and avoid the war.'

The blurb talks about a 'new client, Mr Hitler' who claims he has 'anger issues'.

'You will use psychoanalytic techniques to diagnose the source of his trauma, that could be triggering his anger and hate,' it adds.

Developer Jon Aegis – who describes himself as a 'centrist and a capitalist' – said the game was 'thoroughly researched'. 

But Holocaust expert Daniel Kennedy said it is in 'incredibly bad taste' and trivialises the murder of six million Jews.

He said: 'The entire premise of the game is in such incredibly bad taste I can only assume it was deliberately designed to cause offence. 

'I'm guessing they were hoping to sell a few copies based on shock value alone,' he said.
