A Colorado Springs man who was arrested for his missing wife's murder was caught after police recorded him detailing the alleged killing over the phone to his ex-wife.

Dane Kallungi, 38, was arrested last month trying to get onto the Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico and charged with first-degree murder of his wife, Jepsy Amaga Kallungi.

Jepsy, who moved to Colorado Springs from the Philippines in 2017 to marry Kallungi after they met on a dating website, has not been seen since 2019, when she was 26 years old.

Kallungi later moved to California, but had returned to Colorado Springs on March 26 and had lunch with his wife Alaine Kallungi, and allegedly confessed to killing Jepsy, according to an affidavit.

Alaine informed the police of their conversation later the same day and agreed to have a phone call with Kallungi on April 3 which would be recorded by police.

In that call, Kallungi allegedly confessed to Alaine that he killed Jepsy in March 2019 following a domestic violence incident and buried her body.

The alleged attack occurred after Jepsy came home following an sexual encounter with a soldier in Fort Carson, the affidavit states.

Dane later told Jepsy's family that they had stopped talking and she went with a friend to either Chicago, Mexico or the Philippines without bringing any ID or her phone.

'Information gathered during this investigation suggests that Dane Kallungi strangled Jepsy Kallungi during an act of domestic violence, causing her to be severely injured,' the affidavit said.

In the phone call Kallungi allegedly details the violent incident that led to his wife's death.

He said he strangled Jepsy following an argument where he was trying to 'stop the words from coming out of her mouth' and severely injured her, according to the affidavit.

'I kind of like, I grabbed her and I guess it was just like a second when I got p****d off, but I didn't even feel that p****d off,' he said in the call.

'It looked like I did some damage and I freaked out and it looked like she was suffering,' he added.

He said he 'didn't want to watch her suffer anymore' and implied he killed her out of mercy.

'I wasn't sure if I had already killed her and it was like the stuff you see in the movies about how people die,' the affidavit said.

'Like she was already dead. It was just a matter of time and like I didn't want to watch her suffer anymore,' he said.

'I put her on the floor and it was like there was still some breathing going on even though she was gone and I just, just regretted that,' Kallungi added.

After a two-year investigation into Jepsy Kallungi's disappearance, police arrested her husband Dane Kallungi after they obtained audio of him confessing to strangling and burying her

He then told his ex he wrapped Jepsy's body up and placed it in the trunk of his car and buried her body in a grave the following day.

But before burying Jepsy, Kallungi drove his son to school and went to work while his wife's body was in the trunk, the affidavit states.

'Yeah, she was in my trunk, and then after work I drove to Florissant and found a spot and like I just stuffed her and... yeah, I went to Florissant and no, I like said goodbye to her before I put her there and tried to apologize a million times,' he said on the phone call.

Jepsy moved from the Philippines to the US in 2017 to marry Kallungi after the pair met on a dating website.

Court records show that the couple had filed for divorce, but it's unclear if the divorce was ever finalized.

Jepsy's mother Margie Amaga became concerned when she suddenly stopped replying to Facebook Messenger texts on March 20, 2019 and she was first reported missing by her family on April 4, 2019.

During the course of a two-year missing persons investigation, authorities executed over three dozen search warrants and conducted multiple interviews that led them to believe Kallungi was a primary suspect, according to the affidavit.
