40 Democrats urge Kevin McCarthy to address Marjorie Taylor Green's 'dangerous' behavior after AOC said she considered getting a restraining order over her 'harassment'
Nearly 40 House Democrats, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, wrote to House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy on Thursday and asked him to address Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's 'dangerous' behavior.
The letter was spearheaded by Rep. Pramila Jayapal and said that she and her fellow lawmakers were concerned about 'dangerous, concerning, and unacceptable behavior' from the Georgia Republican.
'The Congresswoman’s harassment of her colleagues has reached an unacceptable level,' the letter states. 'We respectfully request that you work with her to address these issues and ensure that this type of behavior no longer continues.'
The letter comes after repeated incidents between Greene and Democratic lawmakers.
She and Ocasio-Cortez, in particular, have argued in the hallways of Congress and on the House floor. After a May confrontation on the House floor, where Greene verbally confronted Ocasio-Cortez and then followed her out to the hallway to continue yelling, the New York Democrat considered getting a restraining order against Greene.

The letter mentions that incident and several others, including Greene's behavior prompting Democrats to move Rep. Cori Bush's office away from her after the two lawmakers had a run-in in the hallway over mask wearing; and Green trolling her office neighbor, Rep. Marie Newman, with a anti-trans sign after Newman, whose daughter is transgender, displayed a trans flag in the hallway.
Greene responded by hanging up a sign, 'There are TWO genders MALE & FEMALE. ‘Trust the science!'
Bush and Newman also signed the letter as did a diverse group of moderate and liberal Democrats.
The Democrats write to McCarthy that Greene's 'behaviors only appear to be escalating.'
They note Greene appeared at former President Donald Trump's 'revenge rally' in Ohio this past weekend, where she said Ocasio-Cortez should be 'locked up.' Greene also repeated the false claim Trump won the election.
The Democrats also express concern that Greene's 'conduct is creating an unsafe work environment for members, and that her actions could lead to violence against members of Congress.'
They argued that McCarthy, as leader of the House Republicans, should act.
'Every day that goes by without action from your leadership is a tacit endorsement of the Congresswoman’s offenses, and invitation for her to continue—and escalate further. Everyone has a right to a workplace free from harassment and abuse, including members of Congress. We urge you in the strongest terms to take immediate action to address Rep. Greene's behavior,' they wrote.
They do not offer any suggestions for what McCarthy should do.

It's unclear what kind of punishment House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy could give out if he opts to do that; Greene no longer sits on any committees
McCarthy's office did not immediately respond to DailyMail.com's request for comment but he has condemned Greene on previous occasions, including when Greene compared mask mandates and vaccine passports to the treatment of Jews during the Holocaust.
'Marjorie is wrong, and her intentional decision to compare the horrors of the Holocaust with wearing masks is appalling,' McCarthy said at the time. 'Let me be clear: the House Republican Conference condemns this language.'
It's unclear what kind of punishment McCarthy could give out if he opts to do that. She no longer sits on any committees. She was stripped of her committee assignments for her past racist comments and sharing of QAnon conspiracy theories in February.
He could banish her from meetings of House Republicans or offer a censure resolution. But Greene is popular among the Republican base and with Trump himself, who remains a tour de force in the GOP.
