Australian, 30, is fighting for life in hospital after catching Covid as another 36 people are hospitalised over the virus
An Australian in their 30s is one of many fighting for life in intensive care with Covid-19, as a further 36 are admitted to hospital.
Intensive care doctors in New South Wales are treating a total of seven Covid patients, chief health officer Kerry Chant told reporters on Wednesday morning.
A further 30 people have been hospitalised with the respiratory disease - eight of whom are under the age of 35.
Dr Chant said the figures should serve as a 'wake-up call' to young people who may think the virus only impacts older people.
' should dispel the myth that this is something that only impacts on the elderly … A bit of a wake-up call to young people,' she said.
'The fact that 37 patients have been admitted to hospital should indicate to the community the fact that Covid is … not a mild disease.'
She also said that 14 of the people in hospital are under the age of 55.
'It can be mild in some but for many it can lead to hospitalisation and death.'
