Shocking moment doctor is dragged out of surgery in a Mexico hospital and beaten by the family of a deceased 14-year-old girl who died as he was operating on her

A surgeon in Mexico was dragged out of his hospital emergency room in late November and beaten by the family of a 14-year-old girl who died during surgery, a newly surfaced video from a hospital surveillance camera shows.

Cameras at San Rafael Hospital in the State of Mexico municipality Cuautitlán Izcalli show how Dr. José Navarro was pummeled by a group of men inside the facility's lobby on Nov. 21.

The video footage appeared just this week on social media.

In a second video, Navarro can be seen being dragged out of the hospital by the mob of the deceased girl's family members. One man holds the entrance gate shut to prevent the medical facility's staff from leaving the hospital to help the physician. 

Navarro is then pinned to the ground before the police eventually arrive and rescue him from the angry mob.

There's no indication in the video, or in local news reports, that any of the angry family members were detained or arrested.

The cardiologist told Mexican newspaper El Universal that the girl, whose name has not been publicly released, had suffered four heart attacks before she had been admitted to the hospital Oct. 23.

Navarro was operating on the teenage girl, who had also developed an abscess in one of her lungs, when she suddenly died.  

He said the girl's father and other family members returned to the hospital Nov. 21 and took him out of an operating room before they took turns assaulting him. 

'They practically took me out of the operating room with kicks blows,' Navarro told Noticias Televisa. 'I was first brought down by two . When I got down to the there was already a third . Then another suspect. They took me out the clinic with blows, threats.'

The girl's family filed a report with the local prosecutor's office, accusing Navarro of homicide.  

Dr. Navarro spent two days in jail, but was released after an autopsy report determined that the girl's death was caused by an infection that attacked her immune system.

Navarro was forced to relocate his own family due to the ongoing threats made by the girl's family father and other family members. 

'I was panicking. Well, when I was beaten I thought that they might disappear me, that they would kill me and my family,' he said.

Navarro said he has not been able to work since the assault out of fear the family could return to the hospital and harm him.

'I am not a criminal, I regret the death of the minor, but my work was focused on saving her life, which unfortunately we were not able to,' he said.

'I ask for justice because doctors cannot be intimidated in this way. I was psychologically devastated and unable to work for fear that this family would come back to attack me.'
