MAGA mob was only 100 feet from the office where Mike Pence, his wife and his daughter were hiding when hero Capitol cop led rioters in the wrong direction after the violent crowd missed by him by just one minute in hallway

The rioters that stormed the U.S. Capitol on January 6 were just 100 feet from the officer where Vice President Mike Pence and his family were hiding, according to a report.

It took 14 minutes to evacuate Pence from the Senate Chamber after the MAGA mob first broke into the building, according to law enforcement officials and video footage obtained by The Washington Post.

Secret Service agents eventually managed to convince the VP to leave and rushed him and his family into an office before they were taken to a second secure location.

Less than 60 seconds after Pence was taken to his hideaway, a violent crowd followed a Capitol officer up a flight of stairs - just 33 yards from the office but away from the chamber where many lawmakers still remained.

According to The Post, at 1.59pm, outgoing Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund received the first reports that the rioters were attempting to break into the Capitol by smashing doors and windows.

It was just 14 minutes later, at 2.13pm, that Pence was ushered off the Senate floor and quickly escorted to an office hideaway.

Just one minute after Secret Service whisked Pence out of the Senate chamber, at 2.14pm, the pro-Trump mob met Officer Eugene Goodman on a second-floor landing. Officer Goodman heroically led the mob in the wrong direction.

The landing was less than 100 feet from the hideaway Pence, his wife and his daughter had hustled into, three anonymous sources told The Post.

That means if the rioters had reached the landing just seconds beforehand, they would have seen the Vice President being evacuated.

This is especially pertinent because many of the mob were angry that Pence refused to cave to President Trump's demands and overturn the election results.

One group of rioters chanted: 'Hang Mike Pence!' while one man left a note on Pence's desk that read: 'It's only a matter of time, justice is coming.'

The man, Jacob Chansley of Arizona, also known as the 'QAnon Shaman', was arrested and charged with two felonies and accused Pence of being a child-trafficker while in custody, The Post reported.

Prior to the incident, Officer Goodman, had been guarding an entrance to the Senate when the mob breached the Capitol.

Goodman went down a corridor to confront the rioters, and was met by a group of President Trump's supporters.

In a recently new clip, unearthed by ProPublica, the mob and Goodman are in a confrontation with one person shouting: 'Where they countin' the votes?!'

As it became clear Goodman was outnumbered, he ran up a set of stairs away from the Senate floor, leading the mob with him.

Because the leader of the pack, Doug Jensen - seen wearing a black QAnon shirt - was focused on Goodman, he did not notice the hallway leading to the Senate chambers.

Jensen was later arrested and faces federal charges including assault; resisting or impeding an officer; knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority; disrupting the orderly conduct of government business.

After being in the office, Pence was told by his agents that they recommended he be evacuated from the Capitol.

Both times he declined, until the third time in which Secret Service agents said they have to leave right then and there.

After Capitol Police determined that the building was secure, Pence returned the Senate Chamber at 8pm, reported The Post.

Meanwhile, a group of lawmakers have introduced a bill to award Goodman with the Congressional Gold Medal.

US Representatives Nancy Mace, Emanuel Cleaver, II, and Charlie Crist announced the bipartisan bill to honor Goodman for 'his bravery and quick thinking' during last week's insurrection at the Capitol.

QAnon Shaman told cops Mike Pence 'is a child-trafficking traitor' and he was glad he left a note for the VP saying 'it's only a matter of time, justice is coming'

The man dubbed the 'QAnon Shaman' told the FBI Mike Pence 'is a child-trafficking traitor' and said he was glad he sat in his Senate chair where he left the Vice President a threatening note, according to federal prosecutors.

A filing submitted by Justice Department lawyers late Thursday says Jacob Chansley, the 33-year-old Arizona QAnon supporter, admitted to federal authorities in an interview the day after the Capitol riot that he was the man in the image occupying Pence's seat while decked out in horns and fur.

He told them he was 'glad' he sat in Pence's chair on the Senate dais 'because Vice President Pence is a child-trafficking traitor,' the documents state.

Prosecutors say Chansley also admitted he left a note warning Pence 'it's only a matter of time - justice is coming' - but claimed the note was not meant to be threatening.

Chansley had also been planning to return to Washington DC for Joe Biden's inauguration and carry out a similar act to the January 6 insurrection before he was arrested Saturday, according to federal prosecutors.

US prosecutors believe supporters of President Donald Trump - including Jacob Chansley - planned to 'capture and assassinate elected officials' at the Capitol building

Federal prosecutors say Chansley, who also goes by the name Jake Angeli, planned to capture and assassinate elected officials during the violent siege that left five - including a Capitol cop - dead.

Chansley, who was kicked out of the Navy 15 years ago, had called for identifying and then 'hanging' 'traitors' in a November 2020 tweet included as evidence in the court filing.

Once inside the Capitol, he allegedly shouted to fellow rioters through his bullhorn that they were there to take out several congressmen.

The detention memo, written by Justice Department lawyers in Arizona, goes into greater detail about the FBI's investigation into Chansley, who surrendered himself to the FBI in Phoenix on Saturday for his role in the violent riot.

Chansley was charged with knowingly entering a restricted building without lawful authority and with violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol Grounds.

On Thursday evening, Chansley's lawyer said his client wants Donald Trump to pardon him because he felt he was 'answering the call of our President.'

'He meant to kidnap....perhaps execute': Retired Lt. Col charged over Capitol MAGA siege wanted to take hostages, say prosecutors

By Emily Crane for DailyMail.com

Prosecutors believe the MAGA mob rioters who stormed the US Capitol last week planned to 'assassinate elected officials' - as it's alleged that a retired Air Force officer carried plastic zip-tie handcuffs because he intended 'to take hostages'.

Claims that some rioters intended to assassinate elected officials have now been made by federal prosecutors in Texas and Arizona as those charged in the siege continue to face court over their involvement.

Retired Lt. Col. Larry Rendall Brock Jr, 53, faced court in Texas on Thursday after he was arrested after being photographed on the Senate floor during the deadly riot wearing a helmet and heavy vest and carrying plastic zip-tie handcuffs.

Brock, a father-of-three who lives in Dallas, was released to home confinement after being charged with knowingly entering or remaining in a restricted building or grounds without lawful authority, and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.

During his hearing, prosecutors said the zip ties were proof Brock - who appeared in court with his hands and feet shackled - had planned to take hostages during the siege.

'He means to take hostages. He means to kidnap, restrain, perhaps try, perhaps execute members of the U.S. government,' Assistant US Attorney Jay Weimer said of Brock.

Separately, federal prosecutors in Arizona alleged that the intent of the rioters during the siege was to capture and assassinate elected officials.

In a court filing on Thursday, those prosecutors argued that 'QAnon Shaman' Jacob Chansley should be detained pending trial after he was charged over his involvement in the riots.

The prosecutor in Brock's case had also argued that he should be detained given his military background, saying 'his prior experience and training make him all the more dangerous'.

Magistrate Judge Jeffrey L Cureton said he would release Brock to home confinement. Cureton ordered Brock to surrender any firearms and said he could have only limited internet access as conditions of that release.

'I need to put you on a very short rope,' Cureton said. 'These are strange times for our country and the concerns raised by the government do not fall on deaf ears.'

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi chokes up as she calls Capitol riot an 'assault on our Democracy'

By Geoff Earle, Deputy U.S. Political Editor for DailyMail.com

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi raised the possibility Friday of criminal prosecutions of Republican lawmakers if they are found to have provided Capitol tours to people who took part in the Capitol riots.

Speaking to reporters a week after a MAGA mob ransacked the Capitol and days after the House voted to impeach President Trump, the Speaker responded to claims by multiple lawmakers who have raised alarms about the tours on the eve of the riots.

'If in fact it is found that members of Congress were accomplices to this insurrection – if they aided and abetted the crimes – there may have to be actions taken beyond the Congress in terms of prosecution for that,' Pelosi said.

Pelosi also choked up as she spoke about a 'punk' who wore a hoodie to the riot with the words Camp Auschwitz.

'To see this punk with that shirt on and his anti-Semitism that he has bragged about, to be part of a white supremacist raid on this Capitol requires us to have an after-action review,' she said.

While she said there would be a multi-pronged investigation of what went wrong, she also put the matter in terms of 'trust' – after she ordered the installation of a magnetometer outside the House chamber amid fears of further violence.

'In order to serve here with each other, we must trust that people have respect for their oath of office. Respect for this institution. We must trust each other,' Pelosi said.
