Idaho internet provider BLOCKS Twitter and Facebook over 'censorship' concerns from customers after both websites banned President Trump

An Idaho internet provider has announced it has blocked access to Twitter and Facebook due to censorship 'concerns' after both social media sites banned President Donald Trump.

YourT1Wifi, which services North Idaho and parts of Washington, informed its customers of the decision this week after reportedly receiving multiple complaints from subscribers.

In an email sent out on Monday, owner Bret Fink said the company had been 'fielding calls' over the last few days from customers calling for the websites to be blocked from the network.

Screenshots of the email were shared on Twitter by customer Krista Yep, who slammed the move as 'alarming' and 'insane.'

'It has come to our attention that Twitter and Facebook are engaged in censorship of our customers and information,' the email began.

'We have the past couple of days been fielding calls from customers voicing the concern that they do not want these sites allowed to be displayed on their internet feed to them and that they do not want their children to go to these sites.'

The company explained that while subscribers are able to make these changes themselves, some lack 'technical knowledge' and it would be 'very tiresome' for them to service everyone individually.

'There are too many people that have called for us to do one at a time so we will be blocking these 2 and any other website that may also be censoring whether it be through their algorithm they use for their site or any other means,' it added.

The company did not specify how many customers had complained and confirmed the block would go into effect Wednesday.

It came after Twitter and Facebook last week announced they were permanently banning Trump from their platforms after he was accused of inciting violence at the US Capitol.

YourT1Wifi did not explicitly reference the actions against the president, but stated - ironically - that it did not support companies' decision to censor information from its users.

'Our company does not believe a website or social networking site has the authority to censor what you see and post and hide information from you, stop you from seeing what your friends and family are posting,' the email continued.

'This is why with the amount of concerns, we have made this decision to block these two websites from being accessed from our network.'

Those who still wished to have access to the websites would have to inform the provider to be added to the 'allowed list', otherwise, the block would go into effect automatically, the company said.

Yep told local news station KGW8 that she was 'shocked' her internet service provider had decided to make such a sweeping change.

'If it's not illegal, it's highly unethical,' she added.

YourT1Wifi owner Bret Fink told Yep in an email response that the block was not a policy change but a 'choice' for all customers, adding that he could have 'worded' the announcement 'better'.

Yep, however, said the 'alarming' decision has led her to cancel her subscription.

The company had claimed in its email that the decision to block Twitter and Facebook was not political, 'just a moral high ground of fair and decent communication.'

It also added: 'We also don't condone what Google, Amazon, Twitter, Facebook and Apple are doing either to Parler by trying to strong arm them into submission. Actually looks like they are trying to exterminate the competition is what it looks like.'

YourT1Wifi is based in Priest River, in Bonner County, Idaho and has been servicing customers since 1996, according to its website.

DailyMail.com has contacted YourT1Wifi for comment.

The service provider's blocking of the websites has also raised questions of potential internet law violations.

Idaho does not have any net neutrality laws however, the company could be accused of censorship in Washington, where manipulating internet access is illegal.

A spokesperson told the news station that Washington's attorney general's Consumer Protection Division was 'taking a look at the matter.'
