An armed man has been shot dead by police on a busy Brisbane highway, causing chaos for peak-hour traffic.
Emergency services were called to the Logan Motorway at Drewvale, in Brisbane's south, just after 6am Thursday.
Officers were responding to reports of a traffic hazard and were confronted and threatened by the man who had a 'bladed weapon'.

Police had been talking with the man when an incident unfolded and and he lunged at them, The Courier Mail reports.
The man was shot up to three times and paramedics were called to the scene but he was declared dead.
'After responding to a call of a traffic hazard police were allegedly confronted with an armed man,' Queensland Police said in a statement.
'Despite first aid being administered, the man was declared deceased.'
Police have cordoned off the scene and close all Eastbound lanes of the motorway to investigate the incident.
Commuters and motorists have been urged to use alternate routes.
'Eastbound lanes of the Logan Motorway are closed due to a police incident,' RACQ tweeted on Thursday morning.
'Please avoid the area, delays are expected.'
The incident has resulted in traffic chaos in the area as police have cordoned off the scene and closed Eastbound lanes to investigate
