'California has become complacent and entitled': Elon Musk CONFIRMS he has relocated to Texas after listing his seven Golden State properties for sale amid feud with lawmakers over COVID shutdown

Elon Musk has confirmed he has relocated to Texas following a feud with California lawmakers over government shutdowns amid the COVID-19 crisis. 

The billionaire founder of Tesla and SpaceX made the announcement on Tuesday during an interview with The Wall Street Journal. 

The 49-year-old South African, who has lived in California for almost two decades, says the state has become 'complacent' when it comes to innovation. 

'They do tend to get a little complacent, a little entitled, and then they don't win the championship anymore,' he told the publication. 

Musk claimed that California - and, in particular, Silicon Valley - 'has been winning for a long time'.

'I think they're taking it for granted a little bit,' he stated.

Musk did not reveal whereabouts in the Lone Star State he has moved to. It's also unclear whether he will purchase any property there, given that he stated earlier this year that he wants to rid himself of possessions and is only interesting in renting. 

Over the summer, the Musk Foundation officially consolidated its headquarters in Austin - a city that also houses a Tesla assembly plant. 

However, Musk is also known to spend time in Boca Chica, on the southeast coast of the state, where there is a SpaceX facility. 

For the time being, both Tesla and SpaceX remain headquartered in California. It is unclear whether Musk will officially move both businesses to Texas at a later date. 

Additionally, he made no comment as to whether his partner, Grimes, and their seven-month-old son, X Æ A-X 12, have also made the move.  

Musk has been slowly building roots in Texas, and recently put all his California properties on the market. 

He has been reportedly cozied up to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott after clashing with local leaders over coronavirus lockdowns.

Musk lashed out at California leaders including Gov. Newsom and Alameda County officials when shutdowns stopped production at Tesla factories in Fremont in the spring of this year.

Musk defied the health order and reopened early, slamming the regulations as 'fascist' during a shocking April earnings call saying, 'Give people back their goddamn freedom.'

Despite his frustrations with the COVID-19 restrictions, he revealed on Twitter he tested positive for the virus last month. 

He then sued Alameda County and soon afterwards in May he announced that he would move his Tesla headquarters to Texas or Nevada and started allegedly cozying up to Texas Governor Greg Abbott. 

Musk has also been a critic of California's tax policies and claimed it had developed a 'winning-for-too-long problem' that was forcing out the super-rich. 

California has the highest income tax in the country at 13.3%, while Texas has no state income tax. 

Musk is currently the highest paid CEO in the US, taking home an estimated $600million.  As of October, Musk had earned awards currently worth about $20 billion before taxes. 

Earlier this year, Musk listed seven of his California homes for sale, worth a total of $137million. Four of the Los Angeles homes were listed on Zillow as a multi-property listing with an asking price of $62.5million

Musk also listed his home in Hillsborough, near Silicon Valley, for $35 million
