Thug who has lived in Australia since he was five months old is deported to New Zealand after punching his pregnant partner in the stomach

A man who has lived in Australia since he was a baby is set to be deported to New Zealand after he punched his pregnant partner in the stomach.

The 22-year-old, whose name has been withheld by a court, arrived in Australia in 1998 when he was just five months and has an extensive criminal record of 40 separate offences in the last six years.

After the man's visa was torn up in 2019, he appealed to the New South Wales Administrative Appeals Tribunal who this week upheld the visa cancellation.

The tribunal heard how the man was placed into foster care at age seven and his criminal activities coincided with him developing drinking and drug problems as a teenager.

The man's extensive history of violence towards women was explained to the tribunal with member Rob Reitano saying these types of offences were particularly serious, The Daily Telegraph reported.

'A person committing such crimes should expect to forfeit their right to remain in Australia,' Mr Reitano said.

One incident involved him as a teenager threatening a young girl with a knife, hitting her with his hand, cutting her leg with scissors and pulling her hair.

The incident resulted in a sentence of two years probation and two control orders.

In 2017, the man was charged with a series of offences against his 17-year-old girlfriend including common assault, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and stalking or intimidating with intent to cause physical or mental harm.

The partner took out an apprehended violence order but was again attacked in August 2018 by the man who held her against a bus stop while yelling at her.

Officers claimed they witnessed the man 'throwing approximately six-10 uppercut-style punches with a closed fist directly into the victim's lower stomach' who reacted in pain.

The man was convicted of another string of offences in October 2019 - including two of stalk or intimidate with intent to cause fear of physical or mental harm after he made threats to his own mother.

The tribunal heard he was on his way to collect his son from the woman and told her: 'I'm going to f**king kill you' when he got there.

The man received a two month jail sentence over that incident, with his criminal record causing him to fail a character test required under migration laws in Australia.

In his appeal the man argued being in custody had helped him get off drugs and having a young son had prompted him to change his behaviour.

Mr Reitano countered that he had re-offended after he had been to prison and his son was born.

'I am unable to find that there is another reason why the mandatory cancellation of the man' visa should be revoked,' he said.

Earlier this month Australian authorities deported two planes packed with criminals from New Zealand and sent them back across the Tasman.
