Unlicensed daycare owner, 34, is arrested after a three-month-old girl died in her care following five requests from state officials to shut down

A Colorado woman has been charged with child abuse resulting in the death of a three-month-old baby girl who died at her unlicensed daycare in August after state officials sent her five cease and desist requests, according to police.
Deputies from the Douglas Country Sheriff's Office arrested Amanda Anderson, 34, who was running the daycare from her home, in connection to the death of the baby on August 26.
According to 9News, Anderson called 911 after she found the infant unresponsive while taking a nap in her home.
The baby was sleeping on a DockATot, a sleeping mat with cushions to prevent a baby from rolling over.
First responders said Anderson had started CPR in the home and when they arrived to the scene, she ran out of the house screaming while carrying the baby.
The baby was transported to Sky Ridge Medical Center where the infant was pronounced dead.
Deputies arrived a short time later, and Anderson reportedly refused to let them inside the home.
She is said to have told deputies that she did babysitting 'on the side' and was watching 12 children including her own. But after an investigation, deputies discovered that 17 children, including three infants, were under her care that day.

According to 9News, Anderson told other parents that the baby died of SIDS, but the cause of death has not been released.
Despite the death, police said Anderson had children in her came on two occasions in early September.
When police interviewed parents of some of the children, they expressed knowledge of Anderson's daycare being unlicensed.
Most parents expressed satisfaction with the care Anderson provided for their children.
One parent told police that Anderson did not want to license her day care because she would 'have to pick up items around the house such as shampoo, conditioner and other household items', 9News reported.
Some parents were paying about $420 per week for two children.
Anderson has reportedly received five cease and desist letters from state officials. In 2018, a complaint was made against Anderson for running the unlicensed daycare.

According to documents from the Colorado Department of Human Services and obtained by Fox 31, a licensing specialist visited Anderson’s home when the complaint was made.
When no one answered, the specialist left a business card. The next day, Anderson reached out to the woman who informed her about the complaint and emailed her a cease and desist letter.
The station reported that Anderson signed and returned the order, saying she would be applying for a license.
It was also revealed that prior to that complaint, Anderson had been contacted twice with cease and desist letters at another address in the same neighborhood.
Since the baby girl's death, Anderson received two more cease and desist letters.
Authorities are not releasing the name of the baby at this time.
An autopsy has been completed but the cause of death will not be released until the investigation is complete.
Anderson is being held at the Douglas County Detention Facility on a $50,000 bond.
