A Chicago man is in police custody after he was allegedly seen sexually abusing a seven-year-old girl during a remote learning session online.

Police said the young girl, a student at a city public school, was forced to perform a sex act on the man at a home in Chicago's South Side on Thursday.

The girl's teacher witnessed the abuse after the incident was streamed online on the school's remote learning application and reported it to the school principal who alerted the police, authorities said.

Officers were called to a home in the 200 block of East 89th Place in Chatham around 1.30pm.

The suspect was taken into custody and is being questioned by detectives.

The little girl was taken to Comer Children's Hospital near Hyde Park. Details on her condition were not released.

A Chicago Police Department spokesperson told DailyMail.com the incident remains under investigation and charges are still pending.

Police declined to comment on the suspect's relationship to the girl.

The Department of Children and Family Services is also investigating, according to WGN.
