Five-month-old baby miraculously survives crash that killed her 29-year-old mum after her Toyota Landcruiser was pushed into a power pole

A five-month-old girl has survived a horrific car accident that killed her young mum, after their 4WD was pushed into a power pole on a busy highway.

Emergency services were called to the Pacific Highway in Lake Munmorah, on the NSW Central Coast, at 8.15pm on October 16.

The 29-year-old woman was driving a Toyota Landcruiser with her daughter inside before it collided with a Subaru WRX.

A 29-year-old woman was driving a Toyota Landcruiser with her daughter inside before it collided with a Subaru WRX.

The collision pushed the woman's car into a power pole, causing extensive damage to the car and killing the driver.

One car was travelling north and the other was driving south, NSW Police revealed. 

Witnesses of the crash rescued the child from the woman's car, and she was taken to John Hunter Hospital for observation.

The 34-year-old driver of the Subaru is under police guard and he will undergo mandatory testing.

His passenger, 28, was also taken to John Hunter Hospital for minor injuries. 

Images from the accident show both vehicles extremely damaged with the bonnets of both cars caved in.

No charges have been laid and investigations continue.
