Four children and a woman from the same family have died and five more were injured after a knife and hammer attack at a home in Paris.

The victims were found next to the weapons at the house in the northern suburb of Noisy-le-Sec.

Police reportedly found two people dead and more wounded as well as the hammer and knife when they arrived at 11am on Saturday.

Three others died within an hour and a half despite the efforts of the emergency services.

The victims and the suspect are believed to be from the same family, according to Actu 17.

A man, who was found seriously injured and unconscious, is thought to be the suspect and is being treated in hospital.

He was taken to Beaujon hospital in Clichy, French media say.
