Their full-throated condemnation of both Trump and financing of Biden will come three times before Trump's nominating conference opens on Monday and underscores the way the president has alienated some members of his own party, particularly one of the intelligence and foreign policy veterans.
"Trump has demonstrated that he lacks the personality and competence to lead this nation and has engaged in corrupt behaviour that renders him unfit to serve as president," the team intends to announce in a full-page ad at The Wall Street Journal on Friday.
"We've reasoned that Donald Trump has failed our country and Vice President Joe Biden must be chosen the next President of the United States," it adds.
The team is just one of a range of Republican organizations opposing Trump's re-election from the Nov. 3 election.
Together, they object to his alienation of U.S. allies abroad and his leadership at home, most recently his reply to the coronavirus pandemic, which has killed more than 170,000 Americans and triggered a severe economic recession, in addition to his response to nationwide protests over racial injustice and police brutality against Black Americans.
The Trump campaign has described Republican-led groups campaigning for Biden, for example Republican Voters Against Trump and 43 Alumni for Biden - countless officials who worked for George W. Bush - as"the swamp," disaffected former officials"trying to take the duly elected President of the United States."
Trump himself has voiced contempt, stating on Twitter last year that such"Never Trump Republicans" have been"human scum."
'GLOBAL CHAOS'
Bob Tuttle, who had been manager of employees under Reagan and ambassador to the UK under George W. Bush, is a member of the federal safety team and said Trump's tackling of the coronavirus crisis was"abominable."
"He is a malignant narcissist. He is a liar. He's a despicable human being and the worst president in American history - it is not even close," Tuttle told Reuters.
Another type member, James Glassman, an undersecretary of state in the George W. Bush administration, said Trump had created"global chaos."
"Lack of leadership has caused the deaths of 170,000 Americans," Glassman said. "There is no excuse in the country with the very best health scientists on the planet."
The team lays out a thorough charge sheet against Trump, such as accusations that he's unfit to lead into a nationwide crisis, undermined confidence in U.S. elections, adapting himself with dictators, preached a"dark and pessimistic view of America" and attacked and vilified immigrants.
The national security group will launch a web site on Friday and come under the umbrella of another anti-Trump business run by Republicans, Defending Democracy Together. The former national security officers raised $140,000 one of themselves to launch their effort.
