Schalke midfielder Weston McKennie has officially signed for Juventus on a season-long loan for £4million. 

Juve will have the option to buy McKennie for £16m -payable in three years - at the end of the season, but should the 22-year-old play 60 per cent of their competitive games the club will be obliged to take him on full-time.

McKennie could acquire a further £6m in performance-related bonuses, bringing his transfer total up to £23m.

McKennie travelled from Gelsenkirchen to Turin to undergo a medical on his 22nd birthday before signing 24 hours later.

McKennie will become the first American in the Bianconeri shirt after impressing in his 91 appearances for Schalke. 

In the last two seasons, McKennie has established himself as the youngest Schalke player to have delivered the most amount of assists, while also scoring five goals himself.

McKennie previously played in the Champions League for Schalke in the 2018-19 season and will be back in that competition this campaign.

Alongside Daniel Caligiuri, the 22-year-old has been one of most utilised midfielder at Schalke. 

Newcastle and Southampton were interested in signing McKennie, but he was intrigued by the prospect of joining Juventus.
