Touching video shows sick 8-year-old

The heart-warming moment when Noah Roberts, a boy who is ill with a rare genetic disorder, scored a touchdown for his favorite football team was caught on video over the weekend.

In East Carolina University's final practice game of the spring season the eight-year-old ran the ball 69 yards into the end zone.

After completing the touchdown Noah was held high in the air as both teams chanted his name in emotional scenes.

As reported by CBS, Roberts has neurofibromatosis, a genetic condition that attacks the brain and spinal cord.

Only one in 40,000 children are affected by it. Noah has already had several tumors removed from his body.

Noah was diagnosed with NF2, the most aggressive form of the disorder, in 2010. His mother Lisa told CBS that the doctors have not given any timeline or prognosis for their son.

'We are just taking this on,' Lisa said. 'There is no cure. The only treatment is surgery and that is only if those tumors are accessible, and one of his tumors is not.

'We really don't know. We just try and stay very optimistic. Until then, we try to put as many happy memories in there as we can,' she added.

And that's where the East Carolina football team comes in. According to WCTI12.com Noah has been a big ECU fan since his sister attending the school.

Noah got to know the team over the last two years. Then on Saturday he made his dash to the end zone as his team-mates blocked the opposing team.

His mother told WCTI12 that he had a hospital visit scheduled for Sunday.

'He has been so upset about going back to the hospital tomorrow,' said Lisa, 'when he found out about this it just lifted his spirits he was so happy it’s given him something to look forward to the past few days.'

The team were equally touched after the event. Junior Quarterback Shane Carden explained: 'You kinda get chills in moments like that.

'It's just it's really nice to just be able to be a part of that be a part of that with Noah and be able to do that for him with the whole team around him. It was a special moment.'

Junior Wide Receiver Danny Webster was emotional too. 'That was awesome man,' he said 'I mean that's, that's a, I mean I wanna tear up watching it.

That's the most, that's awesome I mean I can't even say anything else,' he added.

And ECU head coach Ruffin McNeill said that 'any hurt, or complaint, or pain that I may have' disappear when he thinks of Noah.

Earlier in April, Jack Hoffman, 7, also scored a memorable touchdown with the Nebraska football team.

Hoffman, of Atkinson, Nebraska, had won the hearts of fans and everyone in the football program for his courageous bout with brain cancer.

Wearing a miniature Burkhead uniform complete with a No. 22 jersey, Jack ran onto the field late in the scrimmage. He also ran around 69 yards for a spectacular touchdown that he celebrated in front of the crowd of 60,174.
