A man who wanted to document a softball game got up close and personal to an errant foul ball that would have smashed right into his face were it not for the iPad he was using to tape the game.
Just behind him at the Cedar Falls, Iowa game, someone else was also taping and managed to get a clear shot of the man’s brush with serious injury.
The gentleman sat just behind home plate, nestled as close to the field as possible.

No warning: As many fans would, this man was documenting a softball game using his iPad
Bad luck: But this man happened to be in the worst possible spot as a foul ball, seen just in front of the tablet computer, came right for his face
Though a protective net hung just in front of him, the man leaned in far enough for a ball, on the off chance one would come right for him, to do some major damage.
And that’s exactly what would have happened, were it not for the white iPad positioned in front of the man’s face.

Thankfully, the iPad took the abuse for him.
Close call! iPad saves man from foul ball
Smash! The ball, which is 12 inches in circumference, smashed right into the iPad, which in turn smash right into the man's face
Good sport: The ball bounced right away after making contact with the iPad (left), so the man got no souvenir, but he did get a laugh as he turned and smiled to a snickering crowd (right)
Instead of a bloodied face, the softball fan managed to survive the incident with just a case of mild shock.
As other spectators chuckled, the man turned and shrugged, even smirked a little.
Miraculously, the iPad seemed to survive unharmed, as well.
Undeterred, the man went right back to taping the softball game sitting in the very same position as before.
Hopefully, for his sake, lightning really doesn’t strike the same place twice.
Like new: Not only did the man avoid injury, but the iPad survived too and the man went right on taping his game
