Bling Ring gang member Alexis Neiers and her new daughter - a fascinating glimpse at her sober, married life

Looking the very picture of a contented mother, Alexis Neiers gently totes her newborn baby daughter in the Californian sunshine.

It is all a far cry from the bedraggled brunette who posed blearily for a mugshot after being arrested as one of the ‘Bling Ring’ – the gang of teens who ransacked celebrities homes throughout Hollywood.

Now married to a man she met in Alcoholics Anonymous and having battled to conquer her heroin addiction, Alexis, 21, is busy looking after baby Harper Elizabeth, who was born three weeks ago – as Sofia Copploa’s new film about the infamous gang threatens to dredge up the past.

Harry Potter star Emma Watson plays a character based on Alexis, complete with Valley Girl drawl. But a first glimpse of the movie, aptly named The Bling Ring, left Alexis seething and calling it ‘trashy and inaccurate’ – while her mother insisted to MailOnline that her daughter is not guilty of the crimes she was convicted of.

Beaming: Alexis Neiers cuddles daughter Harper Elizabeth outside her Los Angeles home. She was joined by her mom Andrea Arlington.

New mom: Bling Ring gang member Alexis Neiers steps out for the first time with her three-week-old baby daughter Harper Elizabeth - as Sophia Coppola's film debuted at Cannes Film Festival.

Proud mama: Alexis Neiers gently carried her newborn daughter down the steps of her Los Angeles apartment - and into the California sunshine on Friday.

Indeed, the film has brought to light issues that Alexis has with the lead detective on the Bling Ring case, Brett Goodkin, who is currently facing termination from Los Angeles Police Department after earning $12,500 for advising the film - even scoring a cameo role - while the case was still ongoing.

Alexis was sentenced to six months in jail in May 2010 for her role in the high-profile crime spree,  where she and friends admitted to breaking into the homes of several young celebrities including Paris Hilton, Lindsey Lohan, Rachel Bilson and Orlando Bloom.

After spending 30 days behind bars, she was then ordered to rehab after being found in possession of black tar heroin and a fake ID after violating her parole in December that year.

And as a glamorous Emma Watson joined her director and cast members to debut the film at Cannes Film Festival, Alexis’s mother Andrea Arlington said her daughter was ‘upset’ that the film was so ‘one dimensional’.

She went on to claim that Alexis was NOT guilty of breaking into Orlando Bloom’s house, and was there by accident after being dragged along by friends – despite the fact her daughter admitted her guilt.

Speaking exclusively to MailOnline, Andrea, 49, who appeared alongside her daughter on E! Entertainment reality show Pretty Wild, said: 'It upsets her that it’s so one-dimensional. It’s a very single dimensional representation, it’s also inaccurate as Alexis was not there the night she was charged with being at Orlando Bloom’s. Nor did she burglarize this residence.'

After watching the movie trailer last month, Alexis hit out, calling it 'trashy and inaccurate', writing on her blog: 'I can only hope that this movie does not just tell the story of Los Angeles teens robbing the homes of celebrities because that, I don't believe, would have much impact on people as what I believe the real cultural obsession with what the Bling Ring is.

'The story of teens robing [sic] the homes of celebrities is artificial and has no real depth and substance and I can only hope that Ms. Coppola decides to shed light to this truth...Based on what I saw it looks like it is just another party movie based on teens robbing celebrity homes.'

And discussing her daughter's current view of the film, Andrea insisted: “She does not even care, she thinks ‘I was a young silly girl’, she has compassion for that young girl because she was sick.

“She fully admits she was a heroin addict, she fully admits she stole money from me, she fully admits she panhandled in the street.

“Alexis is innocent and has been misrepresented.”

She revealed her daughter is now writing a memoir with her explanation of what happened which will be published in a “few months” time.

Mugshots: Alexis was arrested for violating her probation after being found in possession of heroin in December 2010 (seen on the left) - just months after she was sentenced to six months in jail in June 2010 (seen on the right).

Pretty wild to Pretty mild: Alexis Neiers poses while pregnant with daughter Harper - and with husband Evan Haines.

Asked what Alexis plans to do next, she said:  “Actually, she hopes to be a voice for young people that are addicted to heroin and alcohol and hopefully be an inspiration by being an example, I mean she’s been sober for over two and a half years now, off of heroin and that’s a miracle.

“And now she sponsors other young people who are getting off of heroin. She’s 21. It’s amazing. Hopefully her memoir book will inspire people to reach out and get the kind of help they need, the help she didn’t get help with. Evan is eight years sober. They’re a very happy family and that’s all she wants, is to have a happy family and a happy life and she does today.”

The film is based on journalist Nancy Jo Sales' Vanity Fair article on the Bling Ring, and Miss Sales' book,The Bling Ring: How a Gang of Fame-Obsessed Teens Ripped Off Hollywood and Shocked the World, is released tomorrow.

Andrea said she would watch the movie, out on June 14, “only in order for me to rebut the alleged actions of my daughter.”

Alexis now lives in a quiet suburb of Los Angeles with husband Evan Haines, a businessman from Canada, whom she married in Mexico in April 2012.

The couple met at an AA meeting and upon their wedding, Alexis told E: ‘It's really an incredible thing to learn to love yourself and then to be able to allow yourself to be unconditionally loved by another.

‘When I entered this relationship I was happy, and now I'm even happier. He is the kindest man I've ever known. I am truly blessed.'

As she left her home dressed in black, with sunglasses covering her eyes and her baby kept close to her chest, Alexis said they were both doing ‘good’.

And her mother said: ‘The baby is good, absolutely the most precious thing in the world. She’s three weeks old.

She said that other than Alexis getting “no sleep” she is exhilarated, adding: “When that little girl smiles it just melts your heart, she’s so happy.

‘Alexis is so incredibly well, it’s not easy because she did have an emergency C-section but being a new mum is really exhilarating.”

Andrea added: “Evan is an amazing father, I’m so grateful for my daughter and for Harper, oh my gosh, I feel there is just no more of a kind-hearted man, besides my own husband. She's very lucky.'

Supportive: Alexis Neiers' mother Andrea Arlington still protests her daughter's innocence. She joined her on a day out on Friday.

Taking out the trash: Canadian businessman Evan Haines leaves the Los Angeles apartment he shares with wife Alex Neiers and baby daughter Harper Elizabeth.

While Alexis is caring for her newborn daughter, the cast of the Bling Ring joined Sofia Coppola on the Croisette last week.

Alexis even tweeted Emma, saying: ‘Break a leg in Cannes!....And No hard feelings about making fun of me :)’

She added: ‘I couldn’t be more thrilled’ that Emma was playing her, adding ‘it’s an honour and totally surreal. She is so sweet and extremely talented, yet humble.’

Her mother said that her daughter’s main issues with the movie are that it used the account of Detective Brett Goodkin.

Goodkin has been accused of not properly informing the LAPD or the L.A. County district attorney of his Hollywood turn -- important oversights, considering the prosecution of three of the Bling Ring defendants was ongoing when he worked on the picture, and is currently the subject of an Internal Affairs inquiry.

And Andrea said: ‘She hasn’t seen it, but everybody has been informed of the storyline which is based on the account of Detective Brett Goodkin, the lead detective who is under investigation.

‘Having said that one must understand his story to Miss Coppola certainly might be questionable.

'Alexis did not consult on this movie whatsoever. Miss Coppola requested for our family to consult but it was basically just a matter of formality as she had already written the movie and she basically wanted to protect herself being sued for defamation of character.

“So in advice from attorneys we just accepted it.'

Happy: Alexis Neiers wishes Emma Watson good luck for the Cannes premiere of The Bling Ring.

The Bling Ring were teens who grew up in Calabasas, California and were arrested after burgling the homes of several celebrities over a period believed to have been from around October 2008 through August 2009.

They're believed to have stolen a total of $3 million in cash and belongings, most of it from Paris Hilton, whose house was burgled several times.

The gang was made up of Rachel Lee - the alleged ringleader - Diana Tamayo, Courtney Ames, Johnny Ajar and Roy Lopez, Jr. Each member pleaded not guilty, although Alexis later agreed to plead no contest to residential burglary. As well as her jail sentence, she was also put on three years probation and ordered to pay $600,000 worth of restitution to Bloom.

Despite this, her mother insisted she was not guilty, claiming Alexis was taken to the star's house by Nick Prugo who told her it was the house of a friend of his and he was just picking up some clothes.

Premiere: Emma Watson plays a character modelled on Alexis Neiers in The Bling Ring, directed by Sofia Coppola. The film - which also stars Claire Julien, Taissa Farmiga, Katie Chang and Israel Broussard, debuted at Cannes Film Festival last week.

Sexy: Emma Watson stars in The Bling Ring as a character based on Alexis Neiers - a great departure from the role of Hermione in Harry Potter.
