Hotter than the Algarve! Summer is FINALLY on its way back as temperatures soar to 82F from Sunday as fallout from Hurricane Ida brings mini-heatwave next week
Britons will get one final blast of summer starting from next week - with September's temperatures surging to highs of 82.4F (28C).
Parts of the country will be hotter than the Portuguese Algarve and on par with other European holiday destinations such as Mykonos and St Tropez.
It is believed that the fall-out from Hurricane Ida which has devastated parts of the US - will force a change here after weeks of dull grey skies caused by high pressure.
A change in the jet stream will finally allow some sunshine to hit the UK at the weekend, with the mercury set to soar to 77F (25C) on Sunday.
The South East will see the best of the weather with warm air being dragged in from the Mediterranean, after a grey and cooler August.
Alex Burkill, a Met Office forecaster, said: 'It does look like hot temperatures will start to arrive in the South East after a disappointing end to the summer.

'August had been particularly grey, dull with cooler temperatures, but it does look like there will be a little blast of summer weather.
'The week will start with temperatures reaching 27C (80.6F) on Monday, it’s likely to be dry and sunny for most but this will only be the beginning.
'Tuesday is likely to be the hottest day, with temperatures probably reaching highs of 28C (82.4F) or even higher before the temperature drops slightly again on Wednesday.'
Meteorologists predicts that while Hurricane Ida won't be directly felt in the UK, the weather system's force would have an impact on the weather we will experience.
Earlier this week, Met Office spokesman Grahame Madge told The Sun: 'What these hurricanes do is bring warm humid air into the North Atlantic, which can have the effect of pepping up weather systems already in place.
'Although we're not going to see the effects directly, it'll invigorate the jet stream.'
London and the south east are likely to benefit the most, but the majority of the country will hopefully see temperatures in the mid-20s.
'I have to say there is some uncertainty about how hot it will be, and it won’t be the case for the whole country.'

It will come after parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland see cloudy and wet conditions over the weekend, Mr Burkill said.
Most of England and Wales will be warm and dry, with the mercury reaching 75.2F (24C) by Sunday.
He added: 'Recently we’ve had an area of high pressure blocking above the UK - which has made the weather rather stagnant.
'This high pressure will start to drift south into Europe and influence our weather by changing the direction of the wind - before it was coming from the north-east, but from Monday it will start to come from the south of the continent.
'This is not an Indian Summer, that usually comes in towards the end of September, but I’d certainly agree that we haven’t seen the last of the hot and sunny weather for the moment.'

Data from the Met Office shows the UK has seen 442 hours of sunshine between June 1 and mid-August. Summers over previous decades have seen up to 615 hours.
