Moment Tesla swerves out of the way as wrong-way driver crashes into barrier and flips car while fleeing police on New York highway
A Tesla's dash cam has captured the shocking moment that its driver swerved to avoid an upturned car skidding toward them after it flipping over while appearing to drive the wrong way down a New York highway to evade police.
Dash cam footage from the Tesla shows the driver's quick reflexes as they switch lanes before the oncoming car flew past them on its side in a shower of sparks.
Video of the crash was uploaded to YouTube channel ViralHog, and reportedly took place on August 1 along the New York State Thruway.
The driver who submitted the footage said that the other car appeared to be involved in a car chase with police. Police cruisers appear to be visible in the distance on the footage.
'These 3 videos were captured by the dashcam system of my 2021 TESLA Model Y while my wife and I were heading home... after a nice weekend in Massachusetts,' they wrote.
'We have no knowledge as to why the New York State Police were chasing the driver in the opposite direction of traffic on a very busy roadway, or what happened to the driver after the accident.'

It is unclear where along the 560-plus mile stretch of the New York State Thruway the incident took place.
Public Information Officers from the New York State Police did not provide an incident report corresponding with the crash or further information by press time.
'We have no knowledge as to why the New York State Police were chasing the driver in the opposite direction of traffic on a very busy roadway, or what happened to the driver after the accident. Presumably the driver was arrested.'

It is raining heavily in the dashcam footage. Ten seconds into the footage, an SUV ahead of the driver can be seen braking then pulling away from the wrong-way motorist, who tries to pass oncoming traffic using the right shoulder at a high speed.
