BBC's Young Composer of the Year 2012 winner, 26, avoids jail after stealing images of women from social media and uploading doctored versions to pornographic sites

The BBC's Young Composer of the Year 2012 winner has avoided jail after stealing images of women from social media and uploading doctored versions to pornographic sites.

Alexander Woolf, 26, from Cambridge, downloaded images of 15 women and uploaded them to Reddit threads with sexually explicit and derogatory comments, the Crown Prosecution Service said.

He encouraged users of the online community platform to paste the victims' faces onto the bodies of porn actresses before posting the doctored pictures on adult sites.

None of the original images were pornographic or indecent, the CPS said. All of the women were acquaintances of Woolf.

He was handed a 20-week sentence suspended for two years, the CPS said, and ordered to undertake a 40-day rehabilitation programme.

One of the victims was alerted to Woolf's actions after receiving an anonymous email in January telling her about her picture being on Reddit.

She received another anonymous email in March saying her photo was now on a porn site, and that Woolf was behind the post.

The victim found the pictures, as well as those of the 14 other women.

She recognised one of the other women, who helped her track down and notify the others.

All 15 victims said Woolf's actions had caused them significant distress and suffering, according to the CPS.

On Monday Woolf, of Over, admitted at Thames Magistrates Court charges of sending messages that were grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing nature over a public electronic communications network.

Alongside his suspended sentence, the composer, who won the prestigious BBC competition in 2012, was ordered to do 40 sessions with a sex offender programme and 150 hours of unpaid work.

Woolf was ordered to pay each of his 15 victims £100 in compensation, as well as £85 in court costs and a £128 victim surcharge.

He was also ordered to delete all of the victims' images from his devices and handed an indefinite restraining order prohibiting contact with the 15 women.

Varinder Hayre, district crown prosecutor at the CPS, said: 'Woolf's behaviour is severely depraved and reprehensible, especially as a person who is in a position of trust working at a university, and has had a drastic impact on his victims.

'We will always look to prosecute the sexual exploitation of victims and this prosecution is a clear message that this morally repugnant action will not be tolerated.

'I am especially pleased that Woolf has to delete all these pictures from his devices and will not be able to contact his victims ever again.'
