Mind the flap! Escaped two-year-old African Grey parrot is found 20 miles away in Waterloo Station after two days and now won't stop making Tube announcements

A cheeky parrot took off for a two-day holiday in London before being found at Waterloo Station - and now won't stop making Tube announcements.

The two-year-old African Grey parrot, called Grey, was found 20 miles away from his home in Tadworth and since returning can be heard telling his family to 'keep left' and squawking tannoy announcement noises.

Karlene Boyce and her family said they were really worried after Grey flew off on Friday last week.

She and husband Jamie were having a cup of tea in the kitchen with their daughter Lexie Marie, 14 and son Callum, 17, when the naughty bird flew out of an open door.

Karlene, 39, said at first adventurous Grey just settled himself in a tree, although he wouldn't come back down when they offered food or left his cage in the garden.

But at this point the family weren't too worried.

She said: 'We tried to call him but he refused to come down, we put his cage in the garden to try and entice him and kept calling him all evening.

'The very next morning, around six o'clock, my husband and myself went out to have a look for him.

'We found him quite quickly in a tree, he responded to us and we called him but still he wouldn't come down.

'He was flying over the top of our house for hours, he was calling my son in the air going 'Callum, Callum!' and it was quite funny.

'At that point we were quite happy because he knew his surroundings.'

However, later that morning little Grey was spooked and chased by another bird, disappearing from view and leaving the family heartbroken.

Childminder Karlene said she posted about the lost parrot to Facebook as the family anxiously searched for their beloved bird, but had no luck.

But on Sunday, Karlene, Jamie, 45, and the kids got the shock of their lives when Callum was scrolling through Twitter - and spotted Grey.

The adventurous little guy had somehow jetted from the Boyce family house, in Tadworth, Surrey to the station in the capital some 20 miles away.

The tweet, which was posted to the British Transport Police account, read: 'Urgent tweet! Officers came across a missing parrot today at Waterloo Station.

'If this parrot is yours or you know someone who has lost theirs please get in touch asap.'

BTP officers found him perched on the shoulder of a rough sleeper and took him in, where he made great pals with two of the male cops, Karlene said.

She added: 'We were in absolute shock of where he was, but I knew it was him straight away because he has got some quite distinctive markings.'

Grey spent the night at Birdline volunteer's house before being picked up by the Karlene and Jamie, who works as a builder, on Monday.

She said Grey was treated to lots of cuddles.

Karlene said Grey was very tired and looking a little worse for wear with a few feathers out of place - but was otherwise unharmed.

She added: 'He's been talking and chatting loads - he's just back to his normal self now I couldn't ask for more.

'But he has done the tube 'bing-bong' noise a few times, and keeps telling us to 'keep left'.

Karlene said cheeky Grey also keeps making a low whistling noise that sounds like it could be the trains rattling along the tracks.
