Here's looking at you, kids! Famous faces are shown how they looked in 1966 when England last made a football final – so what were YOU up to '55 years of hurt' ago?

They are some of the most well-known people in the world - towering representatives of royalty, entertainment and politics.

The Queen, Dame Joan Collins, Paul McCartney, Helen Mirren, Mick Jagger and Boris Johnson are just some of those who were alive in 1966.

Whilst Her Majesty had already been on the throne for 14 years in the year England won the World Cup for the first and, so far, only time, our current Prime Minister was only just turning two.

McCartney and his friends John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr were topping the musical charts in the Beatles, whilst Jagger was doing the same with the Rolling Stones.

Screen star Collins had already appeared in 25 films, whilst Mirren was just starting out with her starring performances in the National Youth Theatre. 

Prince Charles, who would turn 18 in November 1966, spent two terms at a grammar school in Victoria, Australia, that year. 

As for MailOnline columnist Piers Morgan, he would turn one in March - three months before Bobby Charlton and his footballing colleagues triumphed over East Germany at the old Wembley Stadium.

Boris Johnson is seen above left in 1966, the year he turned two. It was as a small child that the domineering blonde-haired tearaway is said to have declared that he wanted to be 'world king' when he grew up. Prince Charles, who would turn 18 in November 1966, spent two terms at a grammar school in Victoria, Australia, that year. Former Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan is seen sitting on top of a barrel when he was a young child in 1966. The future star turned one in March that year. He was born in Surrey but his family moved to Sussex a few months after his birth. 

In 1966, Joanna Lumley was making her name as a model. She is seen above posing in a close-fitting outfit for Dorothy Perkins.  Lumley appeared in an early episode of the Bruce Forsyth show that year. Her acting career began in 1966 when she was given an uncredited role in the film Some Girls Do. She then appeared as a Bond girl in On Her Majesty's Secret Service in 1969. Singer Lulu, who is now aged 72, found fame early after being signed to Decca Records when she was just 14. In 1966, she toured Poland with the Hollies, becoming the first British female singer to appear live behind the Iron Curtain. There's nothing like a dame - and 20-year-old Helen Mirren wasn't one back in 1966 when she starred on the West End stage in the title role of Cleopatra . Fast forward 55 years and the 75-year-old has become one of Britain's best-loved actresses and been recognised by the Queen for her work. She is seen right at Cannes this week

Michael Caine was already 10 years into his stellar acting career when he starred in hit film Alfie , making him one of the faces of the Swinging Sixties and seeing him nominated for a Best Actor Oscar. The England team might have failed to reach their 1966 heights since but Caine's career went from strength to strength with two supporting actor Oscars coming his way. Now 88, (pictured right last year), the Cockney legend is still making films
