Astonishing moment a woman abandons her car after crashing it and watches as it rolls away into oncoming traffic - before Good Samaritans help her try to stop it

A motorist has narrowly avoided a pileup after the vehicle she was driving veered into oncoming traffic. 

Heart stopping footage posted to the Facebook page Dash Cam Owners Australia, shows the moment a car swerved into other vehicles on Payneham Road, South Australia.

A woman is seen jumping out of her car and falling to the ground while helplessly watching as her vehicle runs rogue. 

Chasing after the car, the driver and two other motorists desperately try to stop the vehicle from colliding with the approaching traffic.

In a caption posted alongside the video, Dash Cam Owners Australia wrote: 

'I suspect she had her hand resting on the gear leaver and as a result of the impact slammed it into reverse.'

The post claimed after the accident the woman exited her car complaining of a sore wrist while her unattended car reverses into oncoming traffic. 

'I jumped out after the car in front of me took off (nearly collecting a motorbike rider),' the post read.

'The car was filled with gas from the airbags causing the occupants to exit abruptly.'

It's believed both the driver and passenger suffered minor injuries.
