Gary Lineker versus Ian Wright and Alan Shearer up against Gary Neville: BBC and ITV release their teamsheets for coverage of the Euro 2020 final

The BBC and ITV have unveiled their presenting lineups for the Euro 2020 final as the broadcasters prepare to battle for viewers of England's clash against Italy on Sunday.

Both broadcasters will be airing the historic game at Wembley and will be vying for the lion's share of a potentially record-breaking TV audience, which could surpass 32 million.

It comes after more than 27 million people tuned into England's semi-final against Denmark on Wednesday.

It was the most watched non-news event since Croatia knocked England out of the 2018 World Cup - and Sunday's game guarantees to be even bigger.

The final against Italy could break the viewing record set by the 1966 World Cup final, which brought in 32.3 million viewers.

It came after the 4-0 quarter-final thrashing of Ukraine was watched by 19.8 million on the BBC.

The BBC may have the upper hand on Sunday as scores of superstitious fans will be looking to avoid the so-called 'ITV curse'.

The 'curse' stems from the 1998 World Cup, when the Three Lions crashed out of the tournament against Argentina in Saint-Etienne, France.

ITV has since screened slightly more World Cup or Euro clashes, yet it has a vastly inferior win record when compared to the BBC.

Losses broadcast by the terrestrial channel include England's Euro 2000 loss against Portugal, and the devastating Croatia defeat in the 2018 World Cup semi-final.

ITV also showed the Euro 2016 clash with Iceland, which England lost 1 - 2.

Before England's win against Denmark this week, overall, England had lost nine matches on ITV and drawn 11. In comparison to the BBC, England’s record reads as Won: 14 Drawn: 3 Lost: 3.

This gave England an impressive 70 per cent win rate on BBC, whereas on ITV it was a paltry 16.67 per cent.
