American Idol alum David Archuleta says he feels 'relief' after coming out adding he is 'some form of being bisexual' as he is attracted to both men and women

David Archuleta took to his Instagram account earlier this month to reveal he is a member of the LGBTQ+ community.

And the American Idol veteran, 30, shared on Wednesday's episode of Good Morning America that he felt 'relief' after he did so because he no longer had to 'hide' a part of himself.

When the star came out he said he was 'not sure' about his sexuality but on the morning chat show he said he now feels he is 'some form of being bisexual' as he is attracted to both men and women.

Archuleta began the interview by expressing his relief at being able to tell the world he is attracted to both men and women.

Specifically, the performer expressed that he felt 'so much relief to not feel like you have to hide a part of yourself, like a secret.'

When asked about his sexuality, the Crush singer told Steve Osunsami that he was still figuring specifics out and noted that he was open to being in relationships with both men and women.

'I'd say that I don't know, I guess, some form of being bisexual... I'm still attracted to both, whether I like it or not,' he said.

Letting everyone know: Earlier this month, the songwriter shared a selfie to his Instagram account and wrote a lengthy message where he elaborated on his experience of coming to terms with himself

Archuleta also remarked that he struggled with his faith when coming to terms with his sexuality and initially reached out to a higher power when doubting himself. 

He recalled: 'I was praying like, "God, you can do all things... Please take these feelings away from me because I don't want to feel things I shouldn't. I don't want to feel things that would be wrong."'

The singer then shared he has accepted himself for who he is. 

'I've had to learn how to love myself, even when I don't understand why I am the way I am but to learn that's how God has created me,' he said.

Archuleta also remarked that he understood that he was not alone in his experience and took solace in that fact. 

The singer recognized that 'there's so many millions of other people who've gone through the same thing as me where they've tried to change who they are.' 

On Wednesday afternoon, he took to his Instagram account and thanked both Osunsami and the feature's crew for allowing him to tell his story to the masses.

Earlier this month, Archuleta shared a selfie to his account and wrote a lengthy message regarding his struggle to come to terms with his sexuality.

In the statement, the songwriter noted that, although he previously came out to his own family, he was 'not sure' about his true feelings.

Going through it: The singer also expressed solace in the fact that he was not alone in his journey of self-discovery

The musician also expressed that he was still saving himself physically for marriage, which he was happy about.

Archuleta then wrote about how he has come to terms with his sexuality, as she wrote that he has learned 'to accept both are real things I experience and make who I am.'

The songwriter also pointed out that he had reconciled his faith with his personal feelings and that he has taken comfort in his beliefs.

The singer noted that he previously 'tried for almost 20 years to try and change myself until I realized God made me how I am for a purpose.'

Archuleta concluded by imploring his fans to 'keep asking and seeking, and having compassion and patience.'
