Shocking moment blast rips through house as man, 43, is charged with causing explosion that put woman, 32, and 11-year-old girl in hospital

The moment an explosion ripped through a terraced home was revealed in footage on Thursday as a man was charged with causing the blast. 

Greater Manchester Police officers were called to a report of a blast at the property, in Wythenshawe, at 12.20am on Wednesday morning.

Clinton Parren, 43, is accused of causing an explosion likely to endanger life or cause serious injury to property, Greater Manchester Police said.  

After the shocking blast, which blew the ground floor window into the front garden, a 32-year-old woman and an 11-year-old girl were taken to hospital as a precaution, police said.

Police said that a gas canister found inside the property had caused the explosion, resulting in significant damage to the walls and windows within the property.

Parren, of Pewsey Road, Wythenshawe, will appear before Manchester Magistrates' Court on Friday, January 1, 2021.

The blast was captured on a CCTV camera. In the footage, a smattering of snow could be seen on the quiet street as people slept in their homes. 

The quiet scene was then suddenly upturned with a white flash caused by the blast, which hurled the front window - including its frame into the front garden.

Pictured taken of the aftermath of the blast showed the double-glazed window prompted against the front fence.

One of the panes of glass remained fully intact despite the blast, whilst the others had cracks running through them.  

In the home itself, a giant gaping hole could be seen with blinds exposed to the weather hanging loosely. The terraced house is estimated to be worth £165,000.

Detective Inspector Christopher Potter said on Wednesday: 'This was a nasty explosion that has caused some significant damage to a property and it's lucky that no-one sustained any serious injuries.

'Whilst no-one was badly hurt, this has left those who were inside the property at the time understandably shaken and upset.

'We understand that events such as this can cause significant worry and concern for the local community but we want to reassure you that we believe this to have been an isolated incident and there is no wider threat posed to the public.

'We currently have one man in custody for questioning and our investigation is very much under way as we try to ascertain all the facts surrounding the incident.

'We would urge anyone with information that could assist us with our inquiries to speak with police.'
