They then fled from the scene on Hawthorn Close, in Bordesley Green, Birmingham, in a black Ford Focus at 1.15am this morning.

Police recovered a partial number plate and checks on roads cameras showed a similar vehicle had travelled from London to the West Midlands before the offence.

Traffic cops then intercepted a car, which was found to have been stolen in Ilford, Essex on January 12, on the M6 near the M1 and began to give chase.

The vehicle crashed into bushes and the occupant tried to flee on foot before officers pursued him through pitch black fields at around 2.15am.

In the video, an officer runs down to the crashed car and says: 'There's no one else in it, there's only one runner.'

He pushes through the brambles and scales a fence before joining an other officer who has the suspect on the ground.
