EXCLUSIVE: 'She's shook!' Meghan McCain was so rattled after spats with Whoopi and Joy she couldn't keep her train of thought, as show insider reveals 'she doesn't have the job security she once did after The View did better ratings in her absence'

Meghan McCain has been back to work at The View barely a week since returning from maternity leave and it's already off to a rough start, as the Republican realizes she 'doesn't have the job security that she once did,' sources exclusively claimed to DailyMail.com.

The talk show's resident conservative returned to work on Monday after giving birth to her first child, daughter Liberty Sage, in September and being hospitalized with eclampsia.

But the time away didn't do much to cool the prior tension she had with co-hosts Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg, getting into a heated spat with Behar on Tuesday.

The 36-year-old interrupted Behar while she was explaining why the Republican party was facing trouble following the 2020 election, ending with Behar, 78, telling McCain point blank that she did not miss her while she was on maternity leave.

The next day, the antics continued when McCain kept pressing Georgia Senator-elect Raphael Warnock on a question, leading Goldberg to snap 'hey listen' at her, before tossing to commercial.

The incident had McCain rattled for a good portion of the show and during a later segment, she became so flustered that she couldn't finish her train of thought and asked if they could move on to someone else.

At the close of the day's show, executive producer Brian Teta appeared for an awkward explanation for the 'technical issues' and claimed Goldberg was telling producers to listen, not McCain.

But a source on the show called 'bulls**t', telling DailyMail.com: 'Anyone with a brain could see that Goldberg was p***ed that Meghan wouldn't shut up when it was time for her to wrap the segment and she wanted her, not the producers, to stop talking. It was all clear as glass!'

They added: 'Here's the other truth, The View did better ratings with Meghan being gone. For years people claimed that viewers tuned in for her craziness, but the numbers showed us otherwise.'

'The show actually broke a record during her maternity leave and now she realizes that she doesn't have the job security that she once did. All of that has her shook,' the source added.

A spokesperson for The View said in a statement: 'This is ridiculous. We are happy to have Meghan back in her seat on the panel and her first day back was the highest rated show in two months.'

The first signs of trouble came on Tuesday when Behar and McCain went head-to-head.

McCain interrupted Behar, who griped: 'Excuse me, I'm not done.'

The new mother-of-one sarcastically replied: 'Joy you missed me so much when I was on maternity leave. You missed fighting with me.'

Behar deadpanned the camera and responded: 'I did not. I did not miss you. Zero.'

McCain then called Behar 'rude' for her comment and the show's moderator, Goldberg quickly tossed to commercial break.

On Wednesday, it was Goldberg who took issue with McCain.

During an interview with newly elected Rev. Warnock, co-hosts Goldberg, Behar, Sunny Hostin and Sara Haines seemed excited about his historic win as the first Black senator from Georgia.

McCain didn't seem as pleased and still images from the interview quickly made the rounds on social media.

Towards the end of Warnock's segment, which was slightly delayed due to a technical issue, McCain asked the Senator-elect if he would support adding additional members to the Supreme Court.

He replied by saying he was only focused on the important issues for his constituents currently, and McCain then attempted to ask the question a second time.

Goldberg started wrapping the segment up, thanking Warnock for joining them, but McCain still could be heard repeating her question at the same time, so Goldberg lashed out, 'hey listen,' to stop McCain from speaking.

DailyMail.com understands that McCain kept pushing her point well into the commercial break even after the show went off-air and then seemed upset that she was cut off.

A source at the network claimed McCain was intentionally trying to hijack the segment, as each co-host has a segment clock that airs on their screens that lets them know when the segment time is up.

'Meghan could clearly see there was no more time left in the segment. She was trying to create a moment for herself in the show that would have gotten press in conservative media. She loves getting press pickup from her segments on the show and she thought she could do that with Raphael Warnock,' explained the source.

Producer Teta attempted to intervene during the commercial break and take ownership of the mix-up, but the source said Goldberg and Behar in particular seemed dismissive of Teta taking accountability for McCain's actions.

'Brian is the same producer that Meghan once called a 'motherf**ker' on set in front of the studio audience and he then released a statement attempting to justify her actions. Brian is always defending Meghan, even when she's dead wrong,' the source said.

Both sources at the show believe ABC has been concerned about McCain's return ever since the show saw a boost in the ratings without her.

During the week of Nov. 9, 2020, The View was the No. 1 ranked show in all households for all of daytime TV for the first time in its 24-year history.

The following week, Nov. 16, 2020, the show averaged 2.9 million viewers, which pushed the show's ratings to its most-watched season since 2014.

These ratings happened while Friday co-host Ana Navarro was filling in for McCain, who was still out on maternity leave.

Additionally, once it was announced that McCain was returning on Monday, the online response was brutal.

The majority of comments begged the show to reconsider her return, and campaigned for the network to have Friday co-host, conservative Ana Navarro permanently replace McCain full-time.
