'Drunk' Thanksgiving guest, 29, is charged with stabbing the host’s boyfriend to death 'after he confronted him for scooping up leftovers with his bare hands'

A Chicago man has been charged with murder after he allegedly stabbed another man in a fight sparked after the suspect plunged his hands into the Thanksgiving leftovers.

James Dixon, 29, was arrested for killing Vincell Jackson, 52, on Friday after the victim's girlfriend hosted a holiday party, where Dixon allegedly consumed a number of alcoholic beverages.

Prosecutors said the fatal altercation began as Jackson was trying to escort Dixon out of the house in Chicago's Marquette Park neighborhood at around 3.15am because he had been digging through leftover food with his bare hands.

Dixon then punched Jackson before the fight spilled onto the porch, where Jackson was stabbed at least nine times, Assistant State's Attorney Susie Bucaro told a judge at a hearing Sunday, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Dixon fled the scene but was apprehended eight hours later with a blood-covered knife.

Bucaro said there were several witnesses to the fight between Dixon and Jackson, but no one actually saw the stabbing take place.

She said Jackson used his final breaths to beg someone to call 911, before a witness went to the porch and saw Dixon running away.

Jackson was rushed to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was pronounced dead as a result of at least nine stab wounds to his head, face and left arm, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Bucaro said Dixon had multiple knives in his possession when he was captured by police, including one that is presumed to be the murder weapon.

She said he had a few small cuts on his hands that appeared to have been sustained during the act of stabbing Jackson.

Dixon's defense attorney Patrick Ryan painted his client's injuries in a different light before the judge on Sunday.

He said the cuts showed that Dixon was merely trying to defend himself when Jackson attacked him.

Judge Susana Ortiz set Dixon's bail at $350,000, citing his rap sheet, which includes three felony convictions, one of them for arson.

Just before he was escorted out of the hearing Dixon asked the judge: 'How much does the case carry?'

'First-degree murder from 20 to 60 years, sir,' Ortiz replied.
