The sick messages a children's author received over her 'innocent' story about a little boy and his pink pants - as she is slammed for having a 'gender agenda' and accused of PAEDOPHILIA

A children's author has been accused of paedophilia and setting a 'gender agenda' after writing a book about a boy who wore pink pants and glitter.

Adelaide mother-of-three Brooke La Pia received the torrent of abuse after she self-published her first book 'Peter Peter Loves His Pink Pants'.

The picture book describes the main character Peter as someone who 'loves his pink pants, glitter and shine, and his dress'.

Ms La Pia works as a school support officer and hoped the book would boost confidence in students who were either living with a disability or having trouble finding acceptance for who they were.

Though the 36-year-old quickly discovered some readers thought she had taken things too far.

She posted a photo of her book to Facebook before some readers accused her of paedophilia and trying to 'force this sort of stuff' on children.

'What moral standard do you hold yourself to, if any at all?' one reader commented.

'You have zero moral standards. This is a paedophile type book period.'

The reader went on to criticise the pictures in the book which shows a young boy dressed in pink and performing a dance routine in a ballet studio.

'A little kid doing splits in short shorts? Should I even have to explain how that is wrong,' the reader commented.

'Pink in our culture is the colour mostly worn by girls.

'This book is disgusting and should be thrown into the trash.'

A shocked Ms La Pia told Adelaide Now the book was written to teach children about acceptance.

'It was meant to say to boys, 'it's OK to like the colour pink and play with dolls, if that's what you like doing'.

'My intention wasn't to be divisive or controversial but to share a bit of joy … I don't want my young daughter to look twice at a little boy if he wants to wear a tutu, as Peter does in the book.

'I want kids to just embrace being who they are and doing what they like to do … I want to say, 'I am OK and this is OK.''
