LA Sheriff's custody assistant, 25, is arrested after 'forcing a DUI suspect to perform oral sex on him inside a jail cell and threatening to deport her'
A Los Angeles County Sheriff's Custody Assistant is facing eight years in prison after a woman jailed for DUI accused him of forcing her to perform oral sex on him last year or risk being deported.
Daniel Everts, 25, pleaded not guilty Wednesday in court to one count each of forcible oral copulation, oral copulation by threat or arrest of to deport under color of authority, and sexual activity with an adult confined in a detention facility.
In a federal lawsuit filed against the county, the DUI suspect – who was pulled over on June 16, 2019 - claims that on June 17, 2019 when she was detained at the Lancaster station, she asked Everts for a blanket because she was cold.
He then told her 'it is going to cost you,' and that 'she could do more time in custody and remain in custody if she did not comply,' with his demand to move to a certain area of the holding cell, the filing claims.
The woman claims that an assault took place on June 17, 2019 when she was detained at the Lancaster station and she asked Daniel Everts, 25, for a blanket
'In fear and finding no choice,' the woman – whose identity has not been revealed - 'was forced to comply with his demands,' and afterwards Everts walked into the cell.
The woman says in the lawsuit that Everts then lowered his pants and she was made to carry out the sex act.
She was released the same day. Everts was arrested three days later on June 20, 2019.
He was charged on October 6 following an investigation by the sheriff's Internal Criminal Investigations Bureau.
'We initiated the investigation based on the victim coming forward to complain,' LA County Sheriff Alex Villaneuva said. 'Once completed, we got the DA to file charges. We hold our own accountable.'
The lawsuit claims that 'Everts had sexually assaulted other female detainees at Lancaster Station since being employed in 2015.'
Everts is still under investigation internally and he faces eight years behind bars if convicted of both sex crimes, the LA Times reports.
He's due back in downtown LA's Foltz Criminal Justice Center court on November 12 and currently free on $100,000 bail.
