EXCLUSIVE: Disgraced ex-congresswoman Katie Hill quietly settles divorce from 'abusive' husband after blaming him for exposing their 'throuple' sexual relationship with a young female campaign staffer

Disgraced Democratic Congresswoman Katie Hill has quietly settled her divorce from husband Kenny Heslep after blaming him for exposing a ‘throuple’ sexual relationship they were having with a young female campaign staffer, DailyMail.com can reveal.

Hill, 33, resigned from Congress last year after the publication of shocking nude photos of the politician cavorting with junior staffer Morgan Desjardins, who was 22 at the time, and an ethics probe was launched into her alleged affair with another aide.

The freshman Democrat from California immediately accused her 'abusive' husband Heslep, 36, of trying to humiliate her and leaking the snaps to ruin her political career.

But speaking to DailyMail.com about the divorce settlement, Heslep's lawyer said the former congresswoman's claims were 'all smoke and mirrors.'

Attorney Michelle Sherwood said the divorce was settled amicably with no allegations of abuse or violence in any court documents.

'There was no mention of domestic violence in the divorce judgment,' Sherwood said.

'There are no restraining orders or restraining order applications or anything like that that are pending. So I think it’s... all smoke and mirrors.

'It was settled pursuant to the mutual agreement of the parties. They reached an out of court settlement.'

Heslep filed for divorce from his wife in July of 2019 in Los Angeles County Court.

The estranged couple were supposed to have a court hearing last week to set the date for a divorce trial that was expected to be bitter and messy.

But the hearing was called off and instead Judge Anne Richardson declared the case ‘off calendar’ and the official court record states, ‘case settled'.

No details of the divorce settlement were revealed in court documents.

Rep. Hill was elected in November 2018 and was the first openly bisexual member of Congress.

She was the Vice-Chair of the House Oversight Committee.

Hill quit Congress on October 27, 2019, days after Red State first revealed the affair and published photos exposing the ‘throuple’ with her husband and Desjardins.

Hill announced her resignation on Twitter over fears of 'what might come next'.

'It is with a broken heart that today I announce my resignation from Congress,' she wrote. 'This is the hardest thing I have ever had to do, but I believe it is the best thing for my constituents, my community, and our country.'

She attached a long statement to her tweet, in which she explained: 'This is what needs to happen so that the good people who supported me will no longer be subjected to the pain inflicted by my abusive husband and the brutality of hateful political operatives who seem to happily provide a platform to a monster who is driving a smear campaign built around cyber exploitation.'

At the time she resigned, the congresswoman was under investigation by the House Ethics Committee for allegedly having an affair with her campaign finance director Graham Kelly, which they both vehemently denied.

Hill allegedly gave Kelly a hefty $5,000 bonus, which was also the highest handout given to her campaign aides.

Hill's husband, Heslep, alleged they were romantically involved in a social media post shared last summer when he filed for divorce.

In his description of Hill's affair with Kelly, he said she had been 'sleeping with her finance director for the past year at least.'

Hill confessed to the throuple affair with Desjardins, calling it 'inappropriate' and issuing an apology to her constituents.

In that apology she said that she became involved with Desjardins 'during the final tumultuous years of my abusive marriage.'

‘I know that even a consensual relationship with a subordinate is inappropriate, but I still allowed it to happen despite my better judgment. For that I apologize,' she said.

Hill paid Desjardins more than $14,000 as a campaign consultant. That sum was in addition to more than $50,000 she earned after she started working for Hill in 2017, according to federal records.

Desjardins, from Santa Clarita, California began a relationship with Hill and her husband shortly after she started working for the politician in 2017.

The three-way affair broke down in the summer of 2019 when Hill told both her husband and Desjardins that she wanted to focus on her work.

Hill continued to paint her husband in a bad light in her memoir ’She Will Rise: Becoming a Warrior in the Battle for True Equality', which was released earlier this year.

There was no answer at Heslep's Santa Clarita ranch home Monday.

But Heslep's attorney Michelle Sherwood told DailyMail.com she had seen no signs of the bitter, vengeful ex-husband Hill described in her book.

'I think it’s attention seeking,' the attorney said. 'I’ve never seen anything – I came into the case late. My client was very easy to talk to, a very nice, respectable person. The case got handled fairly quickly, we settled it and he just seems to want to move on.

'As to anything that occurred during her marriage, with respect to divorce, we have settled all of those issues.

'There was no discussion about anything related to violence or abuse.

'I don’t think there were bad acts, but generally once your divorce is closed it will say all claims are settled with respect to one another.'

Amid the divorce settlement it has been announced that actress Elizabeth Moss would play Hill in a movie version of the ex-politician’s memoir.

Moss has come under fire for accepting the role from an alleged former Hill staffer who hacked into her one-time boss’ Twitter account to accuse the ex California Representative of causing ‘immense harm’ and subjecting her staffers to ‘workplace abuse and harassment.’
