Christian school teacher, 31, is arrested after 'sexual encounter with a student while his mother slept on the couch beside them' during one of her weekly visits to the family's home

Former teacher Kristen O’Brien, 31, was arrested in Florida on Friday and charged with lewd and lascivious battery sex act on a child between 12 and 16 years old

A former Christian school teacher was arrested in Florida on Friday after she admitted to the mother of one of her students that she had an 'inappropriate emotional relationship' with the young boy. 

Kristen O’Brien, 31, also claimed that she and the boy had a sexual encounter in September in the family home as the mother slept beside them on the couch, according to the Daytona Beach News Journal.  

O'Brien said she had tried to be friends with the family after developing a 'crush' on her student, visiting them weekly, and had tried to make the boy jealous by bringing his brother to McDonald's.  

She was arrested on a felony warrant on charges of lewd and lascivious battery sex act on a child between 12 and 16 years old, after quitting her job in United Brethren in Christ Academy in Holly Hill in September when the boy's mother found out.  

The mother became suspicious when she when through her son's phone as punishment for him running away and saw messages from O'Brien through text and Instagram. 

She decided to confront O'Brien, inviting her to a meeting in a Steak and Shake where the teacher admitted the inappropriate relationship with her student. 

A report from the Daytona Beach police states that at the meeting, O'Brien admitted she had developed feelings for her student and that she had a 'crush' on him.

She had quit her job at United Brethren in Christ Academy in Holly Hill in September when the boy's mother found out. Police also launched an investigation at this time

She revealed that she had told the boy about those feelings and given him options on how they were to act on them. 

She told her student that they could pretend she never told him she had a crush on him; they could stop talking to each other; or they could do whatever they wanted and not worry about the consequences, the arrest report states.

O'Brien, who from her Facebook page also appears to be married, became pushy and wanted to spend more time with the boy's family, befriending his mother to see him, the  Daytona Beach News Journal reports. 

She began to tutor the boy's brother and take him to McDonald's in an attempt to make her student jealous, she admitted to his mother. 

She began to start visiting the family home weekly and was eventually dropping in every few days.  

O'Brien also admitted that during one visit to the family home on September 6, she and the boy had a sexual encounter.  

The boy, O'Brien and his mother were on the couch when the mother fell asleep. 

When she awoke, O'Brien was still there and remained until 5am.

The teacher admitted that the boy had touched her in a sexual manner under the blanket while his mother slept.  

O'Brien quit her job in the small Christian school where she taught to child last month.  

At the same time, police began to investigate after the mother reported the incident and O'Brien was taken into custody last week. 

O'Brien's next court date is scheduled for November.  She is out of jail on $50,000 bail.
