Is this the man who will replace David Koch? Channel Seven's Matt Doran is being 'groomed as Kochie's successor' on Sunrise after his contract expires in 2022

Channel Seven star Matt Doran has been tipped to replace host David Koch on Sunrise after Kochie's contract expires in 2022.

According to Woman's Day, Weekend Sunrise host Matt, 36, is a 'network favourite' and is being 'groomed as Kochie's successor'.

'Matt is the heir apparent for sure. He cannot put a foot wrong in that place and offers a more smooth feel to the network,' an insider told the publication.

The source also claimed that Matt will get to 'test drive' the position of Sunrise host because David has been 'cutting down to just four days a week'.

In October 2019, it announced Matt would be replacing Basil Zempilas as co-host of Weekend Sunrise.

He has also filled in for Kochie on previous occasions and he enjoys a natural rapport with Sunrise co-stars Samantha Armytage, Natalie Barr and Mark Beretta.

Daily Mail Australia have contacted Channel Seven for comment.

Meanwhile, David will remain with the network for another two years after renewing his contract.

Last month, it was revealed the finance journalist will continue to host the network's top-rating breakfast show, Sunrise, until at least 2022.

However, he won't be getting a pay rise to reward his almost two decades with the broadcaster, reported The Australian.

The newspaper claims that David will most likely stay on his $800,000-a-year salary, as Seven cuts costs amid the COVID-19 recession.

David has co-hosted Sunrise with Samantha Armytage since 2013. Before that, he shared the desk at 'Brekky Central' with Melissa Doyle.

On August 21, it was announced Melissa was parting ways with Channel Seven after 25 years.

Her departure is believed to be the result of the economic downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has hit Seven particularly hard.
