As one of Hollywood's biggest stars, Tom Cruise attracts a lot of attention wherever he goes.

However, when it came to the Madrid premiere of his latest film Jack Reacher, the actor was happy to let his young co-star Rosamund Pike enjoy the limelight as she showed off her figure in a little gold dress.

While the father-of-three, 50, was dressed for comfort in jeans and a quilted jacket on the chilly December night, the English actress, 33, was looking leggy in a gold embroidered jersey dress and Christian Louboutin heels.

Statuesque: Standing at 5ft 9in, the English actress is two inches taller than her leading man

The film stars Cruise as Jack Reacher, a former military police officer and drifter who is drafted in to help after a sniper kills five people in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The movie is adapted from Lee Child's 2005 novel One Shot.

The actor defended his casting in the role after some fans of the book claimed he was too short.

In the novel, the character is 6ft 5in and weighs over 200lbs.

At the London premiere on Monday, Cruise told Sky News: '(His size is) a characteristic and not his character.

'He's an analogue character in a digital age. It's not just his brute force which is represented in the film but his intellect and wit.

'The audience are going to be surprised by how much they're going to laugh and enjoy the feel of the movie.'

Meanwhile, Cruise confirmed he would spending Christmas with his daughter Suri - his first festive holiday since divorcing ex-wife Katie Holmes earlier this year.

He said: 'We have got lots of very special things planned. We are all going to be together. I am looking forward to it.'

Suri also spent Thanksgiving with Tom in London, where he is based while filming All You Need Is Kill.
