Virginia elementary school tells students to listen to 'Woke Kindergarten' book by non-binary abolitionist author who says 'I feel safe when there are no police' and claims kids can use the pronoun TREE

A school district in Virginia posted - and then deleted - information on their website telling students to listen to an audiobook by a non-binary abolitionist suggesting they should not feel safe around police.

Among recommended readings, writing goals and school standards on Fairfax Community Public Schools' website, they listed Woke Kindergarten's audiobook Safe as a summer resource for second graders ahead of the 2021-2022 school year.

The audiobook - published by Ki, who goes by the pronouns they/them - was also posted on YouTube with pictures. Comments have been disabled.

According to Fox, Elizabeth Shultz, a former FCPS board member, responded and said: 'Someone needs firing!'

Parents who let their youngsters listen to Safe were then automatically shown other videos by Ki after Safe ended, thanks to the sites autoplay feature which begins playing other related videos.

The next clip was a video from the series titled Woke Read Aloud: They, She, He Easy As ABC. 'There are so many different pronouns,' they read.

'This kid Diego likes to be called tree,' Ki added.

CRITICAL RACE THEORY: WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

The fight over critical race theory in schools has escalated in the United States over the last year.

The theory has sparked a fierce nationwide debate in the wake of the Black Lives Matter protests around the country over the last year and the introduction of the 1619 Project.

The 1619 Project, which was published by the New York Times in 2019 to mark 400 years since the first enslaved Africans arrived on American shores, reframes American history by 'placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of black Americans at the center of the US narrative'.

The debate surrounding critical race theory regards concerns that some children are being indoctrinated into thinking that white people are inherently racist or sexist.

Those against critical race theory have argued it reduces people to the categories of 'privileged' or 'oppressed' based on their skin color.

Supporters, however, say the theory is vital to eliminating racism because it examines the ways in which race influence American politics, culture and the law.

According to a description on Ki's website, Woke Kindergarten embraced 'abolitionist' education as 'a global, abolitionist early learning community, creative expanse and consultancy supporting children, families, educators and organizations in their commitment to abolitionist early education and pro-Black liberation'.

They took to their Instagram page earlier this week to complain after news of their book first hit the headlines

Ki wrote: 'LOLLll here we go!!!!

Vice president of Parents Defending Education Asra Nomani told Fox: 'The message that they're trying to send to the second graders is exactly the mixed messages that adults are having to deal with, which is we feel unsafe out in the streets now because of the entire 'defund the police' movement that has led to less police presence.

'But now the police are being blamed for it. So it's this contradiction that is basically very manipulative - and it's so inappropriate for second graders to have to grapple with this.'

Nomani posted a video on Twitter about what FCPS' Grade 2 Summer Learning 2021 guide was suggesting. Users responded arguing 'they are endangering children'.

'Removal of the staff and faculty pushing this rhetoric is necessary,' another added.

FCPS ordered a review of what its buildings are posting on their own.

A district spokesperson said: 'We have asked all schools to check their websites. This looks to be an isolated incident.'

The outrage over Ki's book comes amid ongoing arguments over the teaching of far-left topics in schools.

Concerned parents have clashed at board meetings across the US over schools' decision to teach Critical Race Theory type ideals.

CRT is a school of thought which claims that racism pervades every aspect of society.

Supporters say it is important to recognize and try to 'dismantle' racism that people of color face in their everyday lives.

But critics say the ideology is often used in a divisive way, and to teach very young children that they are either a victim or victimizer depending on their race.
